It’s another day at the Starbucks gourmet coffee house. We’re taking another day to discover a coffee that speaks to us. What gourmet coffee is Starbucks sampling out today? Our cups today are filled with the Espresso roast. One of the extremely dark roasts on the coffee bean scale. The Espresso is suppose to have an intense, rich, and caramel like roast to it. This brew is suppose to be perfect with steamed milk or as a regular brewed cup of coffee.
How does the Starbucks Espresso roast taste on the palette? Served with simply steamed milk this coffee bean has too strong of a finish for my taste. A coffee drinker should not cringe when they take their first sip of coffee. The only thing that my husband and I could taste was bitterness at the end of our sips. Once enough cream and sugar was added, the beans richness and caramel taste finally came out.
In the end this gourmet coffee bean may be strong on the palette as a straight espresso. As a brewed coffee it’s a cup of caramel dreaminess. The caramel roast of the coffee didn’t come out until half and half was added the the brewed coffee. I would not suggest the Espresso dark roast gourmet coffee bean if the coffee drinker is not use to strong roasts.
