Boss battles are valuable in the Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance, because they can potentially drop command points and top tier agent gear. By the time you reach chapter 5, you have a solid selection of heroes who have reached high levels. This gives you a lot more flexibility in battle. You will need that flexibility for some of the harder boss battles. The following guide will help you navigate the boss battles in season 1 chapter 5 of Marvel: Avengers Alliance.
Mission 1 – Executioner / Piledriver – Required: Sif – Recommended: Colossus – Executioner is challenging. He has various defenses against ice, melee, fire, and energy attacks. The best way to get around this is to put a good ranged gun on your agent. Equip your agent with a blaster outfit and have Colossus use Steel Curtain every round. This will build up his strength and protect Sif from Piledriver unless he uses Overhead Smash. Attack Piledriver with your agent and Executioner with Sif, while he is in fire stance. Sif should uses items while Executioner is in ice stance. This fight isn’t too hard if you have either Colossus or Thing, who has all the same benefits as Colossus. Without either one, double up on blasters and focus fire on Piledriver. After he is gone, pay attention to Executioner’s stances and use items when a character’s attacks would trigger a counterattack or strengthen him.
Mission 2 – Grey Gargoyle / Boomerang – Required: Luke Cage – Recommended: Thor – Grey Gargoyle has a nasty attack that will remove an ally if it hits or misses three turns in a row. The solution to this is to simply pulverize him fast. Thor and your agent in a bruiser outfit are the best way to do this. Cage is pretty much worthless, but at least he helps you get through the first wave quickly and his immunity to bleeding protects him partially from both villains. Once you have defeated the Gargoyle, use your enraged bruisers to quickly finish off Boomerang. Even with the incredibly weak Cage, this fight is on the easier side.
Mission 3 – Wrecker / Piledriver / Bulldozer / Thunderball – Required: Thing – Recommended: Phoenix – Even if you defeat Piledriver and Bulldozer separately, Wrecker will still be teamed with Thunderball. Though, if you do face them separately, Phoenix is no longer useful. Your agent should be dressed in a bruiser uniform. In the first wave, just pile on damage and heal thoroughly before starting the second wave. Have Thing use Stonewall before the wave starts and every round during the wave until Thunderball falls. He is a monster that attacks twice per round with a devastating area attack and if he attacks your blaster, he’ll gain a third attack each round. Pound him with heavy damage from your agent and, if you have the ability to do so, weaken him. Phoenix should spend the first half of the fight using healing items until he falls. Once he falls, Wrecker is easy to mop up.
Mission 3 Epic – Loki – Required: Thing – Recommended: Black Cat – This is a painfully long battle, because the second wave takes forever. In the first and last wave, two infiltrators are enough to pound him into submission. But in the second wave, you need to mouse over each enemy and find the one with the green “Loki?” buff. That is the only one you can attack. You don’t deal normal damage with that attack. You just deal a set amount of damage. So don’t buff the attack at all and use your lowest stamina option. It is actually quite hard to lose this battle. It is just slow and boring.
Mission 4 – Enchantress / Executioner – Required: Dr. Strange – Recommended: Any Scrapper – Tear through Enchantress like a hot knife through butter with one or even two scrappers at your command. Scrappers that have at least one ranged attack, like Deadpool, are better because they can safely attack Executioner no matter what stance he is in, but that will just speed up the fight a little. Dr. Strange provides the perfect combination of offense and healing to make this a rather easy battle if you have properly prepared for Enchantress.
Mission 5 – Destroyer / Wrecker / Loki – Required: Thor – Recommended: Angel – Wrecker will pile negative status effects on your team. The best defense against this is to apply the opposite status effects, which Angel can do. If you don’t have a character with that option, use status effect removal. Conveniently, Wrecker is the easiest to defeat because of Thor. Take him out quickly and then focus on Loki. Save Destroyer for last, because he isn’t that dangerous. Status effects fly in this battle, so if you have any item that will remove status effects, equip it.
Mission 6 – Militant / Tactical Force / Bowman / Hammer – Required: War Machine – Recommended: Wolverine – Wolverine is perfect for this battle. He will protect War Machine from Bowman and can shred Bowman quickly. Have your agent focus on Hammer along with War Machine. If possible, you want to have close quarters combat still active when you enter wave 2, as well as at least two stacks of charged capacitors. With this you should be able to take out either Militant in a single salvo. Tactical Force alone is no real threat. This boss battle drops one of the best items in the game. If you have the energy and willingness, fight it as many times as is necessary to earn Power of Four.
