The Facebook game Marvel: Avengers Alliance Tactics is a spin-off game to the incredibly popular Marvel: Avengers Alliance. The game has very different game play and a completely different mission structure called Assignments. Assignment 1, aptly named, is the first Assignment of the game. Even though it is the first, it isn’t necessarily the easiest, because you have the least resources available when you first tackle it. The game will hold your hand a bit through the first task in the Assignment, but you are on your own after that. The following strategy guide for Assignment 1 in Marvel: Avengers Alliance Tactics will help you complete the various Tasks with minimal difficulty.
Task 1: Friend or Foe (Rewards: 450 Silver / Repulsor Shield) – The objective of this Task is to defeat the single enemy, a demon, present on the map. The enemy is bruiser which means that you can pretty much defeat it with Iron Man alone. The biggest danger in this mission is that the enemy might inflict burning on your heroes. If this happens, you can use the Guard power to remove the status effect. It shouldn’t be necessary, but it can help keep your heroes alive if the demon gets some lucky critical hits.
Task 2: Taking A.I.M. (Rewards: 225 Silver / 30 Refined ISO) – Taking A.I.M. has four A.I.M. enemies in it. Two start in the front room and two start in the rear room, and all four are generalists. Due to the positioning of the enemies, you will be tempted to charge in with Black Panther and use Wakandan Arts. This has a good chance of putting Black Panther in a position where he will suffer four attacks over the next round. It is better to move in slowly and Guard with him on the first round while Iron Man attacks from range. If you take out at least one of the two closer enemies before engaging the last two, the fight is a lot less threatening. You can make this fight even easier by taking along a few agents that are currently wasting their time guarding your buildings.
Task 3: Powered Down (Rewards: 60 Refined ISO / Shield Bonus Spin) – Four generalist A.I.M. agents are spread around a partially divided front room and a Power Armor is in the back room. The objective of this mission is to defeat the Power Armor. You win the mission as soon as it is defeated, whether or not the other enemies are alive. The Power Armor will move forward on the first turn and charge its battery. This action has a fast recovery time, so it will move forward and attack for high damage on the second action. Black Panther is fast enough to move in and attack on the first round, but he will be hit by Power Armor if you do that. There is a lot of benefit to holding back and sending in some agents to absorb the big hit. Despite the fact that the Power Armor is immune to bleeding, it is weak to Vibranium, which effectively puts bleeding damage on it. Between that and the fact that the Power Armor is a blaster, Black Panther is your ace in the hole in this fight assuming he has the Claw Swipe or Vibranium Blade power. Ignore the minions and simply focus on taking out the 600 health of the Armor.
Task 4: Distress Signals (Rewards: 300 Silver / 60 Refined ISO) – This battle has five velociraptors and you need to defeat all five to win. Two are scrappers, one is a bruiser, one is a blaster, and one is a generalist. The blasters starts beyond the range that Black Panther can reach with any of his attacks, so unless it acts before him, you can’t act twice with Black Panther in the first round. The bruiser starts on the left side of the map near one of the scrappers and Iron Man can attack it in the first round. The map is poorly set up for using Unibeam, because there is a lot of oddly placed blocking terrain. The dinosaurs are actually rather weak, which means the fight is pretty easy, but they can put a lot of status effects on your heroes. Remember to use Guard to remove status effects, especially if your heroes are affected by weakened or exposed. If Iron Man has Repulsor Shield instead of Guard, use it on the first round of battle.
Task 5: Radiation Poisoning (Rewards: 600 Silver / 1 Command Point / Shield Bonus Spin) – Unless you re-launched the Assignment, you almost certainly don’t have your third hero by now. That makes this mission quite difficult. To counter that difficulty, bring along two agents to support Iron Man and Black Panther. Even if they are only level 1, they can absorb damage and whittle down some of the enemies. You only need to defeat Radioactive Man to win this battle, but trying to simply focus on him and ignoring his allies can easily lead to defeat. Radioactive Man and two of his minions are bruisers, while the last minion is a scrapper. In general, it is best for Iron Man to focus on taking out the bruiser minions than to attack the boss, because he takes half damage from energy attacks. Alternately, you can make this fight a lot easier by purchasing one of Iron Man’s non-energy attacks before this battle. Be particularly careful with Black Panther. It is easy to send him out in front due to his speed, but that makes him vulnerable, especially since Radioactive Man deals roughly 100 damage per hit. Put at least two stacks of bleeding on the boss when you can do so safely. That damage will pretty much assure you win the battle.
