There are some very serious problems that affect humans, one of the biggest causes of death is heart disease. (mayoclinic) Heart disease is an almost certain killer and there are many different things that can lead to heart disease in people. (nhlbi) Obesity, smoking, high blood pressure, and even genetics can cause heart disease in someone, the upside is that it’s not entirely preventible, if you take care of yourself, watch what you eat, get a little exercise, you can lower the risk of your heart failing you later in life. (heart) We all fear our own mortality, it’s only natural, and heart disease is one of the biggest threats to our continuing life, making it one of the most feared illnesses plaguing mankind. (motleyfool) Also on that list you have diabetes, strokes, Alzheimer’s and the most feared of all, cancer, these are all incredibly dangerous diseases which is why they’ve earned the fear that their very mention strikes in all of humanity. There are quite a few ways for one to be inflicted with these diseases, but when you look at each one there is one thing that has been found to be a cause for every single one of these ailments, the most common illness in the world, stress. (Wikipedia) At the end of the day, stress itself could possibly be the most dangerous illness to plague mankind, it could essentially be considered a gateway illness.
Stress management is a big deal, some people have the ability to stay rather levelheaded while others do not, but even those who can are prone to face stressful situations, it’s just a natural fact of life. (healthy-self) There are many ways that you can manage the stress that you encounter in your daily life, you can eat healthy, focus on positive thinking, make time for hobbies, even something as simple as learning to accept that there are things in this world that you can’t change could help cut down on your stress levels. (webmd) With all of the stress relieving options that are current around, there hasn’t been a truly massive breakthrough in the field outside of the standard things mentioned previously in recent years. A new study has been done that actually shows a new way to go about treating stress by regulating a particular gene that is released in higher amounts based upon your current stress level. (ncbi) REDD1 has been found to inhibit mTORC1 the primary function of which is to regulate protein synthesis based on nutrients and energy, this has been known to bring on bouts of depression from breaking synaptic connections. (iflscience) Mice had REDD1 eliminated and then were thrown into stressful situations, the stress didn’t effect them and didn’t show any signs of neuronal damage. The drug used for this experiment was Ketamine, using the right amount they were able to activate the mTORC1 pathway which actually allowed the mTORC1 to repair damaged and lost connections which caused the symptoms of depression shown in the mice subsided. (alnmag) If all goes according to plan we could be looking at something that will not only stop depression but also repair the mental damage caused by it, once again we’re standing on the precipice of an amazing breakthrough. It’s just a matter of time.
