What’s that smell? A smelly vehicle is a very unpleasant ride. Smells are easy to develop and sometimes they can be hard to remove. Here are some ideas to help you deodorize your vehicle.
Clean out everything that is in your vehicle that does not belong. Take out all the garbage, trash, toys, blankets, tools and windshield scrappers and see if that makes the car smell better. If it does you know that it was something inside the vehicle and not the vehicle itself. If the smell was something else beside the vehicle you may be able to place a box of baking soda in the car to get rid of any smell residue.
If taking everything out of the vehicle does not remove the odor you need to wash the car. You can start out with the seats and carpets. Wash them with a furniture cleaning machine. Use a good deodorizing soap that deodorizes as it cleans and get into the nooks and crannies as you clean. Hopefully after your carpets and seats dry you will not have any more odors.
If you still have a smell in your car you may need to clean out the glove compartment and other places that your vehicles has that you have not cleaned. Odors can hide in many places. Mice have a habit of crawling into tight spots and sometimes they die in places that can not be reached. If this happens to your car you have a couple options. You may need to take apart the place that the mouse has died to reach in to get the mouse. This can be a big process. Another option is to wait for the creature to stop smelling unfortunately this could take months.
You may have run over something smelly on the road that splashed up on to the bottom of your car. You may need to wash your cars bottom, inside the wheel wells and the hub caps. This may remove a smell if you have splashed something smelly onto the outside of your car.
A simple odor fighting fix is to hang an odor killing deodorizer in your vehicle. These odor deodorizers can be fun and cute and come in many scents. Hanging a deodorizer will mask any undesirable smells but you will have the heavy scent of the deodorizer in your vehicle and sometimes that is worse then the original smell.
