Many people want to build their own website for a variety of reasons; to promote a small business, to share your hobbies, or for networking purposes. The list of reasons are endless, and when it comes to building a website most people think you have to be tech savvy in order to do it. This isn’t the case at all. These days, there are plenty of site building platforms that allow simple ways of building a website, with the use of a site builder. Once you’re finished, your website will look just as professional as any tech savvy person’s doing.
Concept/Domain:
The first thing you need to do is decide what type of website you want for yourself. Do you want a personal, business, group/membership, online store or blog website. Once you decide which one you want, you can begin looking for the right platform to begin building. Some platforms offer you an easy way to build a website, but with a small fee, and others offer you the same thing, but with a small monthly fee or free. Webs.com is a good example of a platform that can offer you a way to build a free website as well as offer a monthly fee if you want to purchase your own domain. You’ll need to register of course, but that’s simple to do. They also have a site builder that is extremely easy to set up all of your content. You can customize it and it can look 100% professional.
Website Name:
The name and the URL are important because it will reflect what your website is all about. Take some time and decide what this will be. While you can change the name of your site, you can’t rename the URL. At least you can’t on webs. Some sites, however, have changed their name, so I’m sure there’s a process involved, and only if you have your own domain. Once you’re all set on the platform, simply log in and go to the site builder to start building your site. It’s so simple, a child can do it.
Pages:
Think about the amount of pages you want, what their name will be, and what content you’re going to put on it. What is each page going to be about? Do you want to customize the look of each page? The possibilities are endless. If you decide to use webs, keep in mind that they only allow a certain amount of pages if you have a free website. In order to have the chance to have as many pages as you want, you’ll have to upgrade your account, and purchase a domain. So do some research on which platform you want to use in order to build your website. Different platforms offer different options. Your pages can also be connected to a link to a different website, or you can simply have a separate page with a list of links.
Appearance/Media:
The site builder on the platform of your choice has different backgrounds for you to choose from that are preset. But you can also customize it with a background of your choice. All you would have to do is upload a picture, and see if it works for you. Remember that different platforms will have a different way in which you can choose your background, so choose the platform that’s right for you. If you want to add something else, such as widgets, you can do that also. With widgets, you’ll have to copy and paste a code in you “html” section of your site builder, and that’s it.
Give your website some flare by adding videos and pictures. You can even have a separate page for both if you want to have a gallery. You can showcase your talents, reels, tutorials, and more. It all depends on what kind of website you’re building. Remember, you can also do this if you’re only creating a blog, though blogs are more simple to create.
Publish:
Once you’re all done customizing and setting up your website, you’re ready to publish it and share it with your friends and colleagues. Make sure you keep it updated as often as it needs to be. Whenever you need to change something, simply log into the site platform and go straight to your site builder. Remember to always publish any changes you have made.
