Star Wars had been purchased by Disney and a new saga is in the works. It is old news and comes to no surprise to longtime fans. The legendary film saga must go on. People don’t want Star Wars to end. Fans want to take their kids to see the newest additions for generations to come. Luckily, older fans will get a treat in this new outing.
It has been officially announced that Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford will all be returning to their iconic roles. Fans all want to know just how the older cast will come into play. Ford and Hamill are aging stars, obviously they cannot be front and center of the new saga.
Harrison Ford is still quite capable of pulling off action scenes, his last outing as Indiana Jones showed us that age means next to nothing to him. Hamill has become a legendary voice actor and has impressed countless audiences with his acting range. To say the stars are too old to pull off anything would be foolish. However, Disney seems to want to revamp the saga with new stars for a new generation of fans. Luke, Leia and Han may be ready for anything but I highly doubt they will be the focus of the new films.
What role will each of these iconic characters play in the new films? It seems likely that Luke Skywalker will take the place of Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Yoda before him. The Jedi who restored peace to the galaxy will most likely be the mentor to a new, young Jedi. Perhaps we will see Luke take a seat in a restored Jedi council. Maybe he’ll be a hermit much like Yoda in the first trilogy.
As for Han and Leia, we last left them as a flourishing young couple who had nothing ahead of them but peace and joy. Perhaps Leia stayed in politics. Maybe she had a big hand in restoring the Jedi council. We’ll most likely see her in a political role. Keep in mind, Fisher may surprise us with her classic attitude and bad girl charm.
Han Solo was a wild card in the original trilogy. While it is fun to speculate, one can only make random guesses as to what Han has been up to. We know he and Leia were off to a new life together but can an outlaw like Han stay put for long before his ways begin to get the best of him?
The new Star Wars film is set for a 2015 release date. One cannot help but feel that date may be rushed. Can Disney pull off a great new film? Will our favorite stars be a huge part of the new film? We can only wait and see what comes of the film next year.
