Is there a possible new Star Trek series on the horizon? Just over a year ago rumors began to surface that there might be a new Star Trek television series. There has not been a new series for several years after the final season of Enterprise. The proposed new series would bring back a Star Trek favorite for Captain Worf.
Worf was one of the most popular characters in the Star Trek series, he has appeared in multiple movies and was a regular character in two Star Trek series. Worf is the only of Klingons in the Federation Star Fleet. He is a decorated officer who served with distinction against the Borg and in the war against the Dominion.
The Next Generation
Worf served on the Enterprise as a general officer during the first season with seemingly no specific function. In the second season, Worf was promoted to Lieutenant and given the task of Chief of Security. He was tasked with providing security aboard ship and on away missions. The Klingon proved to be useful in many different tactical situations. His fierce warrior mentality and sheer strength were vital in several military operations. Worf also served on the bridge of the Enterprise as the primary Tactical Officer with the duties of maintain the weapons systems.
Deep Space Nine
Following the destruction of the Enterprise in the feature film Generations, Worf found himself without a home. He was summoned to assist with an ongoing unrest between the Klingon Empire and the Federation. Worf was then selected for a new officer position on Deep Space Nine by Captain Benjamin Sisko and became the strategic operations officer. In many different situations was given the command of the Defiant. The Defiant was one of the most powerful starships in the Federation fleet and was docked at Deep Space Nine to help defend the station against Dominion aggression. Following his service on Deep Space Nine, Worf was selected to be the Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire.
Worf would be an incredibly popular character to base a new series on. The series seems to center around Worf as the captain of a new starship and crew. It would be unclear what the mission of the starship would be. With the various changes that the J.J. Abrams reboot has brought to the Star Trek franchise may generate some future changes for Star Trek.
The mission could easily be to help keep the peace between various factions that allied together for the Dominion war. Another possibility could be that the ship is sent to explore another area of space such as the Beta Quadrant, which has barely been surveyed. Whatever the plot line, the series might be another opportunity for Star Trek to expand its universe and develop further characters.
