You’ve picked up a cheap green lipstick from the party supply store, but it’s a horrid color. You give it a try and decide that it is not going to work. You want to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, not look like an extra on the Walking Dead. You want a lip design that is fun, flirty and has a bit of sparkle. Try this one! As a professional makeup artist, I have a few tips that will help you get these pretty, three-dimensional look. It’s a look that you’ll love.
For this St. Patrick’s Day lip design, you need lip primer, dark green eyeliner, a lip brush (or two), shimmering green and shimmering gold eyeshadow. You’ll also need clear lip gloss.
Complete your face makeup. That includes your face primer, foundation, blush and eye makeup. The lips should be the last area you work on.
Apply lip primer to the lips. Allow the primer to dry completely, about 1 minute, before starting.
Start by lining your lips with the green eyeliner. (Here’s a little cheat-if you have smallish lips, draw just above the natural lip line. This will make the lips appear larger.) Start in the center of the top lip and make the “v” where your lip bow should be. Then draw outwards to the end of the lip, and then extend that about 2 inches. End with a curlicue flourish.
Now back to the center of the lip. Draw outwards to line the other half of the lip. When you get to the end, draw downwards then extend that into a 2 inch flourish. It is important that both sides of the lip design are equal in length. Do the same for the bottom lip, work from the center out.
Add a few flourishes to the liner. It should like a vine or green tendrils. (So Irish!) Draw lightly then go over the line to make it darker.
Paint the lips with the green eyeshadow using a lip brush. The best method is to press the eyeshadow on to the primed lips. Do this for the top and bottom. Reline the actual lip area (not the vines) if you happened to smudge them. These need to stand out.
Pucker your lips. Dab the gold eyeshadow into the center of the lips, working outwards. Don’t brush all the way out, just brush the centermost part of the lip. Use a fresh brush to blend the gold and green together where they meet. Almost done!
Touch the lips with clear lip gloss. This will keep the eyeshadow in place.
The colors will move if you kiss, eat or drink without a straw so use caution. Still, it’s a beautiful look to wear for St. Patrick’s Day or whenever you want to show your love for the Irish.
