As soon as Spring flowers bloom, many woman start working on their summer beach bodies. Here are five products many women forget to try out while they can still cover up. Be prepared before baring that beautiful body.
Tanning Lotions: We have all heard of tanning lotion disasters from orange skin to streaking. I have witnessed both with my own eyes, but thankfully not my own skin. The best time to test and find the tanning lotion that works for you is during the Spring: when you can still cover up any mistakes.
A key tip for tanning lotions: follow the directions for each product precisely. Use plastic gloves to keep hands from staining. Don’t put the lotion on your face until you are happy with your test results. Tanning lotions take forever to dry so be sure to test on your day off from work.
Lotions intimidate me and I don’t have the patience to wait for them to dry. My favorite product instead is to use a gradual lotion. Jergens Natural Glow moisturizers gradually change your skin color during the Spring so you have a tan by the first day of Summer!
Laser Hair Removal: Quick Internet research will show that laser hair removal 1.) works, 2.) needs several treatments (about six weeks apart), 3.) costs start at about $100 per session. What doesn’t come up in the research is that you can’t have your treated area (face, legs, or bikini area) in the sun for three days after treatment.
Wise women time laser hair removal for the Spring. You can get in 2 to 3 sessions before summer hits. You can budget the sessions around your paydays. You can wear a cute Spring hat if the sun is out without anyone being the wiser.
Bathing Suits: Spring and Summer go hand in hand for bathing suit shoppers. If you haven’t worked retail, here is what the insiders know: ya gotta move out the old to bring in the new. Shop the clearance sales in Spring and save that money for sunscreen.
Large retailers that sell bathing suits year round (such as Victoria’s Secret) need to clearance out last season’s bathing suits before making room for the new line. Hurry to VS, try on suits like a mad woman while being pampered in the fitting room, and rationalize a splurge on a lip gloss (you need it!) on your way out. Now, check online to see if they are selling the same suit in any other designs you like on clearance.
Deodorants: Am I right? We often don’t think of this until it’s too late. The Summer sun and heat can work a seasonal havoc on a lady’s “powder-freshness”. Test out lotion and deodorant combos. Tanning lotions on armpits can keep deodorants from working as usual.
Some non-whitening anti-perspirants can stain the skin. The chemical combination may not work for your body’s chemistry. Test anti-perspirants vs. deodorants long before your arms are reaching for that beach volleyball.
New Foods: Don’t laugh. Okay, you can laugh now – only if you are trying out new foods in the Spring. If you wait until you are on the beach in a bikini where there is nowhere to hide except – gasp – a port-a-potty, you may be crying.
Girls don’t want to talk about gas, bloating, diarrhea, but I’ve got your back(side), girlfriend. Many women make the mistake of feeling the Summer sun and hopping right up to that delicious looking new juice bar without being prepared for what could happen.
Aloe Vera juice can cause gas, Papaya Seed extract may cause the runs, and wheat grass shots can cause bloating. Broccoli salad devastates my sensitive stomach – for three days. Orange juice causes heartburn if I drink it before laying down on a beach towel. Most people don’t have a reaction to introducing new foods to their diet, but it is better to be safe than sorry this Spring. Test run these treats long before your tummy (and it’s inner workings) are exposed.
