There are plenty of local art museums in the southeast Missouri area if you are just willing to take a drive and make a day out of it. Most of them are free to get in and offer a lot of history and even new art from locals. Here are a few of the local art museums in the southeast Missouri area.
1. Crisp Museum- Located in Southeast Missouri State University, they have a fine art gallery and a history gallery you can walk through and enjoy, both for which admission is free. It’s open on Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. They have different days where curators and hosts are available to talk to you and guide you through different areas of both their history and fine arts galleries. 2. Arts Council of Southeast Missouri- Also located in Cape Girardeau, they have three distinct visual arts galleries, some of which contain works from local talent. They even offer wine, soft drinks, and refreshments on certain days. It is free to get in, however they will accept donations. They are open on Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Their address is 32 N. 3. Margaret Harwell Art Museum- Located at 421 North Main Street Poplar Bluff , MO 63901, this gallery offers high quality art and educational experiences. Their phone number is 573-686-8002 or you can check out their website at www.poplarbluff-mo.gov. There is a children’s museum also at 417 Lester Street. Their phone number is 573-686-8013 and you can check out upcoming events there at www.mham.org .
4. Sikeston Depot and Art Gallery- This gallery is on the National Register of Historic Places and is located at 116 W. Malone St. Sikeston, MO 63801. Events either on-sight or around the gallery include hunting, fishing, walking trails, camping, a historic district, and a winery. This museum is known to recount the most important aspects of the area’s culture. Admission is free and they also will accept donations.
