Soothing a Nasty Sunburn the Natural Way
It was a really great day at the beach! The sun was out, the water was perfect, and you were so confident you would get the best tan ever! That is until you realized you had been out in the sun for four hours straight without sunscreen. And then you burned, bad. But never fear! I have some natural home remedies that you can use to help heal your sunburn and make it go away faster.
Let’s start with soothing the burn since the pain is the worst part (at least for me). Hold an ice pack or frozen peas or whatever frozen thing you have lying around in your freezer on your burn for 1 minute per burned spot. This will numb the pain and hopefully help you think straight for the next step. Once your burns are all nice and numb, rub some aloe vera jelly on them until it absorbs completely. The jelly sooths and heals the burns. Next, sprinkle corn starch on the burns to prevent chafing and peeling. Take an apple cider vinegar bath, pouring about half a cup of the vinegar in warm bath water. This will balance out the ph of your skin and help to restore it.
Remember to moisturize with a lotion specifically for dry skin (to prevent your sunburn from peeling) like this one http://www.amazon.com/ShiKai-Lotion-Therapy-Borage-8-Ounces/dp/B0012QYX18 Drink plenty of water after you get burned because the sun doesn’t only dry out the outside of your body, it also dries out your inside which prolongs the healing process since it is all connected. I hope these tips helped and have fun in the sun (and remember sunscreen)! Also check out my ways to prevent a sunburn page when you get the chance!
