Soda Stream Diet Pink Grapefruit Soda Mix Review

by yak max

We recently got a Soda Stream Genesis to make carbonated drinks. The package came with samples of twelve Flavors. I have tried a few of them so far and frankly can not say that I am impressed with any of them. The Diet Pink Grapefruit is probably the best of what we have tried in the Diet Soda’s but it still has an aftertaste that makes me not want to recommend this Flavor. I do love Pink Grapefruit in general, so what I do is make carbonated water and mix about half and half with Pink Grapefruit Juice. It is not exactly diet but it tastes way better than this.

Description

The Syrup Comes in a plastic bottle containing 16.9 fl oz. This will make 50 bottles of soda. For about $5 a bottle that is quite a savings compared to buying ready made soda in the store. Too bad it has such a bad aftertaste. The diet Soda has 0 calories, and 20mg of sodium per 8 oz serving. The color is very Pink. The syrup is thick but mixes easily with the carbonated water.

How to use it in the Soda Stream Maker

To make the soda first make sure to carbonate the water only according to the instructions that came with your Soda Stream Maker. After you carbonate the water, then you add the flavoring. Never carbonate with flavor in the water. The book does not say why but I think it might have more of a tendency to fizz up and out of the bottle if you carbonate all in one. Also if you did have a problem with a bottle that exploded or fizzed out all over, I would much rather there was just water in it than water and sticky syrup.

Tilt the bottle of carbonated water slightly to the side and pour in the appropriate amount of syrup, watching and slowing if you notice fizzing. You might want to experiment with the amount of syrup to make it to your liking. Some people might like this more with a little more or less than the recommended amount of syrup. After you have poured the syrup into the bottle of carbonated water, put the cap on and gentle turn it over and up a few times to mix the flavoring with the water.

Taste

When I first tasted the Diet Pink Grapefruit Soda Mix I thought it was pretty good, but then I noticed a weird aftertaste that got worse the more I drank. I did finish the glass and had a couple more but ultimately dumped out the remaining Soda and will not buy this again. I think you either like the soda mixes or you don’t as I had the same experience with all the diet sodas that I tried. I have yet to try the non diet sodas and may try them next because even though they are not diet they are way lower in calories than regular soda at only 35 calories per 8 oz serving.

Final thoughts and Rating

I really can not recommend something that I am extremely doubtful that I will ever purchase again. I will give this two stars though because the initial flavor was pretty good. If the aftertaste does not bother you, then you might actually like this. Unfortunately it is not for me.
