When your smartphone is missing, there are three things you must do without delay. First, lock the phone to keep prying eyes away from your sensitive data. Second, delete the data (and back it up somewhere of course) for good measure. And last but not the least, you want to find it.
It sound like trying to pull-off a James Bond-move, but believe me, you don’t have to be 007 to lock, delete the data, and find your phone. This anti-theft features are on the Android App – AVG Anti-Virus.
If the app is installed in your lost phone, you can pinpoint its location through Google Maps and retrieve it. Moreover, you can also lock the phone; reset the factory settings; and erase all data. To do this, all you have to do is send a text message from another phone, which has an ID to set the sequence in motion.
Alternatively, you can sign in with your Google account on AVG’s website – www.avgmobilation.com, and click on the link “Anti-Theft Login.” This link will take you the different options and actions you can perform to secure your lost phone.
Another App You Can Use
The Android app – Lookout, which is from the same manufacturer, has another interesting feature known as “Signal Flare.” This feature automatically stores the location of your phone before the battery runs out.
If you have not taken precautions and have not installed any of these apps, you can use the app Plan B from Google Play store. Using your own Gmail address, you can determine via cell phone towers or known Wi-Fi networks near the phone or even GPS position of the lost device.
What About Apple Devices?
For iPhone, iPad, iPod and Apple computers, “Find My iPhone” is part of iCloud and also provides a way to lock the lost device and to delete the content from a distance.
Whatever smartphone you’re using (iOS or Android), you have A LOT of options to keep it safe and secure. There’s just no excuse for losing your phone and not being able to do anything about it!
