If you’re a parent, you’ve likely heard of the Skylanders video games. It’s a popular game with three different versions and a fourth on the way. The characters provide inspiration for party decorations and activities. Try these ideas.
You can find Skylanders invitations at party supply stores, but you can also create your own custom invitations. One option is to make a ticket-style all access pass to Skylands for each guest. Use images of Skylanders to create the ticket along with wording that includes the party details. Another option is to create a basic rectangle invitation from card stock with Skylanders stickers to decorate the paper.
The Skylanders video game gives you several options for decorating inspiration. Use the colors of your child’s favorite characters as the color scheme for the party. The characters are each assigned to one of eight elements. Each element has its own symbol. Cut out large versions of the symbols to hang on the wall, or create a party bunting with triangular pieces of paper each with a different element symbol on it.
Skylanders posters or enlarged images of the Skylanders characters also work well for party decorations. If your child owns the video game, you can put his game characters on display — as long as he doesn’t mind.
An obvious choice is to have a video game tournament using the Skylanders characters. Set up a gaming station where the kids can go head to head with the characters. If other kids bring their own Skylanders characters, ask them to someone label them so the figures don’t get mixed up at the party.
If you don’t want the party guests to stare at a TV screen the whole time, plan other games that get the kids active. A balloon pop game is one option. Draw chompies on balloons. The kids pop as many of the chompie balloons as possible to destroy them. You can also use this game as a relay race. One at a time, the kids run down to the other end of the room, grab a chompie balloon and pop it. They return to the line and tag the next player who does the same.
For a calm game, make your own Skylanders bingo cards. Use pictures of the different Skylanders to fill in the squares on the bingo board. Use elements from the game as the labels for each column. The kids mark the characters as they are called until someone gets a bingo.
If you want to add a creative touch to the party, let the kids design their own Skylanders characters. Set out paper, pencils, markers, crayons and colored pencils. The kids draw their own characters. They can give them names and decide on the special powers and upgrades that the characters have.
