What better way to honor America’s fighting men and women by throwing a barbecue with friends, family and veterans? What food or wine do I get? What type of charcoal? Plenty of questions run through your mind. Hopefully this list will help you have a great barbecue.
Some people place greater emphasis on decorations for their Memorial Day holiday barbecue. They have everything in red, white, and blue and maybe produce an impromptu firework display. They truly go all out. You don’t need to go that far, but get some paper plates and napkins with American flags. You may also get some mini flags to give out to the kids along with some party favors, they really love that.
Your guests won’t be impressed if you r barbecue grill is your grill rack from the oven and a hole in the ground. Some good and affordable charcoal grills made by Weber are great to use. Charcoal is easier and cheaper to use than gas grills. Kingston makes “match-ready” charcoal that can be lit without lighter fluid.
Choosing what food to buy for their guests can be difficult for some hosts. First, you need to be respectful of everyone’s dietary needs and have food choices for all guests. So offer some gluten free sides and meat that isn’t pork just in case. Food can be very expensive if you decide to buy very high quality cuts of meat. Popular choices are Nathan’s hot dogs, steak, hamburger meat, Lays potato chips and assorted fruits.
Everyone’s favorite part of any event is what cake or ice cream the host has provided. A good rule of thumb is to buy cakes or cupcakes in equal vanilla and chocolate. If you stick to general flavors like these, you can be certain you will please all your guests. Sherbet ice cream is a personal favorite of mine.
Don’t forget to get the sodas like Dr. Pepper and Sprite, you will need a big cooler for that. If you plan to have alcohol, a keg may be a better investment. Think about it like this, what is easier to clean up, hundreds of glass bottles that may have broken, or a bunch of plastic cups?
After party supplies
You’ll want to buy items like garbage bags and brooms before the barbecue not after. You guests will always make a mess of your backyard or living room. Consider renting a wet-vac from Wal-mart, they are affordable and can easily clean the stains on the floor left by your guests.
