Thousands of people are plagued with allergy and sinus issues. Some people’s are mild, and they can get by with some OTC allergy meds. Others are on the extreme opposite end, where they have had to move in order to relieve their issues. I would say my problems are right in the middle. I hope by reading this article you will find some insight into some options that there may be for you.
My sinus issues started 3 years ago. Well, actually, they started before that, but I didn’t know I had sinus issues until they got very bad. I went to my physicians assistant with a half drooping eyelid, and a lot of facial pressure. That was the first time I was diagnosed with a sinus infection. This went on monthly, until almost a year later. The PA referred me to a ENT. I went and got allergy testing done, as well as a CT-Scan on my sinuses.
The CT-Scan showed that my sinuses were completely blocked. The allergy tests showed that I was allergic to around 20 things. I was on the lower spectrum of allergies, but they explained that doesn’t mean it’s not bad for me. I went in for sinus surgery a month after getting my results. I was nursing at the time, so I did not get but on allergy shots.
We had the air ducts in our house cleaned, and an air purifier but on the furnace/air conditioning. This helped immensely. I was doing a lot better for about a year and a half, and then we moved to a new house. I started noticing the same sinus symptoms that I used to get not long after moving. After a couple months of getting diagnosed with sinus infections I decided to go back to my ENT.
I was put on some strong steroids and antibiotics for 2 weeks. These did not help at all. They scheduled me for another CT-Scan which showed that once again I was completely clogged. My ENT said I am so young for having already had one sinus surgery, and wants to try to avoid doing another one. They now have me on singular, 2 nasal sprays, and weekly allergy shots, and we bought 2 room air purifiers. We are hoping that all of this will clear me out.
My allergy problems show up in sinus form. I do not have itchy, watery eyes, with sneezing. I get horrible face pain, ear pain, tooth pain and headaches. If you have any of these symptoms and have never done anything about them I urge you to see an ENT. I am so glad I did, and am hopefully on my way to better sinuses permanently.
