When time falls short within our daily lives, let it be our friends who pick up the desserts. For the love of cooking and the beauty of friends, I have found that swapping out meals, recipes and good times to strike a balance in my daily life. It is the best of times that we often fall back upon in the future, so why not make it the tastiest of times as well.
In the beginning of my group, a flurry of messages was left with each other. However, we have now found it easier to plan ahead and make our next date at the end of each swap. Each month we change hosts as well as dessert picks. During the swap, we often provide the recipe to the dessert. This past month, we swapped out cupcakes. Occasionally, some may buy the desserts if they are short on time but normally, we each bake our own. There are television shows that feature some very tasty desserts, we often try to imitate to the best of our ability. Sometimes we have found success and others there has been an extra round of laughter. We have found through trial and error that it is best if we are making cupcakes or large cookies to ensure that each goes home with no less than a dozen.
Packaging up all those desserts is easily done when you transport the food in the same container you will take back home. The only exception would be when we swap out cakes. When my friends and I bake a cake to share, we will usually brighten up the night with a friendly came of cards where first place gets first pick and so on. There have also been nights were we have watched movies, exchanged recipes and even just sat and enjoyed a cup of Joe. It’s very easy to do with four to six of us sharing ideas, recipes and fun times. As friends, food swaps have brought us together more often and made lasting memories.
Whether you choose to swap meals, desserts, drinks or something else, make the most of the time together and plan a night for everyone will enjoy. It has been a pleasure to our families to always have a special variety of treats each month. Not only does it ensure that our friendships will grow but it allows our families to reap the benefits.
