Marvel Studios continues to crank out incredible superhero based films. Their latest effort is arriving in theaters August 1 in the United States. The Guardians of the Galaxy is the long awaited follow up to the hit movie the Avengers. Both films are based on an unlikely grouping of heroes to face down an overwhelming threat. These two teams have some dramatic differences and some shocking similarities.
While not all of the heroes from the Avengers have a hero from Guardians of the Galaxy that compare, there are some other aspects that are very comparable between the two groups. Here are a few of those comparisons.
1. Battle with Aliens
The Avengers are faced with an oncoming alien invasion spurred by the Asgardian menace Loki. Loki sets events in motion that allow the aliens to invade earth. Loki’s goal is to rule earth and his first obstacle is Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Thor actually fights with Loki in hand to hand combat but is separated after Loki stabs him with a knife. The alien invasion is stopped after Iron Man redirects a nuclear missile through the portal into alien space.
Guardians with the Galaxy are headed into a showdown with the war like alien race called the Kree. The trailer shows a virtual action packed layout of the upcoming battles. It seems that the Guardians will be up against a large army and fleet of the Kree Empire. They may also have to do battle with intergalactic villain Thanos.
The Avengers are brought together as a last resort of the SHIELD agency. The Avengers initiative was a gathering of heroes to face the challenges that SHIELD could not face on their own. The Avengers were summoned to locate and recover the Tesseract to take on the new threat.
The Guardians are called out by the Nova Squad as a last resort against a threat that Nova cannot handle. One of the Nova Squad calls the danger an unstoppable threat. The Guardians are given the task of stopping the threat and saving the galaxy. It may be that the Nova authorities offer the Guardians pardons for their crimes in exchange for their assistance. The mission they are given seems like suicide.
Thanos is revealed at the end of the Avengers in a scene mixed in with the credits. Thanos is the leader of the army that invaded the earth and had been in an agreement with Loki for rule over the earth. He will be appearing in the next Avengers movie, the Age of Ultron but to what extent in unknown. Thanos will be the link that merges the two movie franchises together.
Thanos is cast to be in the Guardians of the Galaxy and that Josh Brolin will be portraying the cosmic maniac. The role that Thanos plays in the movie is still unsure but with the casting news coming so late, it would seem that the role is small. Guardians of the Galaxy have fought with Thanos on several occasions and the movie might see him as the source of the Kree invasion.
