WHEE!!! This is how I would describe the children’s book entitled Roller Coaster. Marla Frazee, the author and illustrator has done a great job in placing you at the scene of an amusement park where you would see this huge contraption. This might be because she spent a year riding all sorts of them before writing this book.
Roller Coaster was published in 2003 by Harcourt, Inc. and has 32 pages which include several pictures.
What I particularly liked about this story were the illustrations. The pictures were well designed with an array of attractive colors. Additionally the print is very comfortable to the eyes making it good for children to read on their own or having an adult read it to them.
As you read through the pages she slowly leads you on a journey to getting on a roller coaster. It makes you recall how you felt when you first got on one. At the end of the story she beautifully shows the many reactions that people have when they step off this ride.
Children will love the colorful and realistic pictures and the way the author uses super-sized words with large fonts to add an element of extra excitement to the book. In one part she has the words written upside down to correlate with the passengers seemingly upside down on the roller coaster.
This book would be a good one to read if your child is curious about what a roller coaster ride is. It will only heighten their experience if they ever have the opportunity to actually ride on one. I think kids of all ages would enjoy this fun book. It goes on my recommendation list for children.
