The mystery concerning Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto, Canada continues to deepen as more information is uncovered about his whereabouts. According to Roy Norton, the Consul General of Canada located in Chicago, Ford withdrew his papers to enter the United States when he landed. He was “not denied entry, per se” according to Norton.
One reason this is believed to come up is with the tightened US Customs and Border Regulation laws. There are many reasons that someone may be denied admission, such as security reasons, criminal activities, and many other related illegal activities.
Popular overseas, as well as border nations, have had celebrities and visitors alike denied access for small reasons. Last year, the British chef Nigella Lawson was denied access because she acknowledged prior to the flight (roughly a year ago), she had done cocaine.
Rob’s brothers Morris and Doug Ford would not give an official report on their brother Rob. However, Doug Ford stated that “…the answer is yes [he is in rehab].” The brothers feel relieved that Rob is bettering himself in a rehab center, instead of continually engaging on the drug uncovered a little over a year ago.
Doug Ford, when asked about the state of the Mayor, replied “He’s feeling great actually. He’s feeling good. He’s bought into the program and he’s getting the support he needs…” Although it was thought that there were no problems after last year’s incidents, there was more to be uncovered. Last week, Ford was found intoxicated outside City Hall in Toronto. He had been threatening a guard that had reported the mayor two years prior.
Speculations are in the air whether or not this will affect re-election. After the first incident, it was reported his chances were overall lower, even with the popularity gained when the news broke out. With this second uncovering, political scholars have stated that they do not expect Rob to be re-elected to this year’s election. More than likely, this term will be the last Rob will serve as mayor of Toronto.
As of this moment, Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly is running the city, with Ford stripped of most of his powers. It is currently not known whether or not Ford will be continuing his term as Mayor of the city. All that is known is that Ford is in rehabilitation, and will not be entering the United States for the next few seasons.
