Review: Mostly because of a winter that I personally believe was the worst I have ever experienced, the furnace that has been heating our house since the early 1980s started to show its age and ultimately needed to be replaced. Since I was able to nurse a few extra weeks out of it, I had time to shop around and, ultimately, I decided on the Payne furnace.
One of my major concerns when I started shopping for a furnace was the price. I had a limited budget to work with and needed a quality product that fit that budget. The Payne furnace was one of the few that did. It wasn’t the least expensive furnace I looked at. But, when a variety of other factors were taken into consideration, it was priced competitively enough for me to put it on top of my list.
This furnace is actually a little smaller than the one I had in our house before and, because of that, I did have some concerns about it providing enough heat. That, however, was not a problem at all. While it may not be large enough for larger homes, it is the perfect size for our smaller ranch house. It provides us with more than enough heat and, just as important, seems to heat up our house a lot quicker than our old furnace. It doesn’t run constantly like the old one did.
Another thing I found I enjoyed about this product was the lack of noise. Our furnace is located in our laundry room and that room is across the hall from our bedroom. Since we sleep with our door open (so the cat can get in and out at night), noise level was one of our main considerations. With the exception of the burner, which is a little louder than expected when it first kicks in and took some getting used to, the furnace is very quiet and has yet to disturb our sleep.
One major additional perk from this furnace is the filter compartment. Our intake is on the floor and, because of that, the filter in our last furnace was sometimes hard to replace. The compartment on this furnace is much easier to open and the filter is much more accessible. I know it doesn’t sound like much. But, that convenience is a pretty big deal in our house.
Final Opinion: I wasn’t thrilled with the idea of purchasing a new furnace. However, now that I did, I am almost sorry I didn’t do this sooner. If you are shopping for furnaces, this is one that is worth looking at.
