Having grown up in the Midwest United States as well as living in Dallas, Texas for several years, I have had quite a few encounters with delicious Tex-Mex cuisine. So with much anticipation and high expectations, my family and I visited Margarita’s, located in East Coast Singapore, for dinner one evening. This restaurant did not let us down.
The vibrant orange colored walls with rustic wooden tables added to the warm and welcoming ambiance of the restaurant. The wait staff remained friendly and attentive even though the restaurant quickly filled to maximum capacity. If you want to dine here, reservations are a must.
For drinks, we had the house margarita on ice, a Negra Modelo, a honey lemon drink, and a virgin raspberry margarita. The drinks were not cheap. At $19 for the house glass of margarita, I sipped this baby slowly and made it last throughout the meal. The two non-alcoholic drinks were both refreshing.
We started our meal with the Portobello Mushrooms and Nachos. Two words to describe these dishes: wow and wow! The mushrooms tasted fresh and had a nice meatiness to them. The sauce drizzled over them was slightly sweet and tangy. Since we had young children in our party, we opted to have the jalapenos in the nachos served on one side. The nachos, although covered in melted cheese, guacamole, black beans, salsa and sour cream, had crunch and flavor.
All the mains we tried were delectable and came in large portions. The 5 small tortillas that came with the Pork Carnitas and the Chicken and Beef Fajitas were homemade and the best I have tasted outside of Texas. Additional tortillas can be had at $1 a pop. No freebies here, which is a little disappointing, since most Tex-Mex restaurants in the US provide extra, dinner plate-sized tortillas at no charge.
If you are a fan or want to try some really good Tex-Mex food, Margarita’s should be your place to visit.
