My favorite Girl Scout cookie has always been the Samoa, and ice cream ranks high on the list of my favorite desserts. So when I noticed that Breyers came out with a Girl Scout Cookies Samoas ice cream flavor, I could not have been more excited. Did my expectations for this product exceed the reality? Read on to find out!
Where to Find It Breyers Blasts! ice creams are available in the freezer case at many major grocery stores. Locally, I have seen them at Walmart and Shop Rite.
Price It cost $2.97 for a 1.5-quart package of 12 servings. That breaks down to about 25 cents per serving.
Nutritional Information The ingredients of the Breyer Blasts! Girl Scout Cookies Samoas Ice Cream are: frozen dairy dessert, Girl Scout Cookies Samoas pieces, rich fudge swirl, and coconut shavings. Each of these main ingredients was followed by a list of component ingredients in parentheses, confirming that this is a highly processed food. This ice cream offers 6% of the recommended daily value of calcium per serving. It has 140 calories per half-cup serving. Samoas cookies are in the 130-150 calorie range for a mere 2-cookie serving. Calorie-wise, this ice cream is a much better bang for the buck than the cookies.
Preparation Like most ice creams, this is wonderfully convenient to scoop and eat. If it is difficult to scoop, I have found that popping the container in the microwave for about 20 seconds will soften it right up. (Please remember to remove the lid before trying this.)
Taste This is a coconut-caramel flavored light ice cream with Girl Scout Cookies Samoas pieces, coconut, and a fudge swirl. I think that it does taste just like Samoas cookies, in ice cream form. This is my favorite ice cream flavor to date. My husband and son also love this flavor the most out of all of the ice creams. They do not even mind that it is a light ice cream. The flavor of this ice cream is so rich and decadent. I do not think someone would notice it is light, unless it is pointed out to them.
Accompaniments Between the cookie pieces, fudge, caramel, and coconut, this ice cream needs no additional adornments. It was meant to be enjoyed simply, whether in a cup or a cone.
Overall Rating I give this product 5 out of 5 stars. The long list of ingredients reveals that this is definitely not a health food, but I was not expecting it to be. Rather, this ice cream does exactly what it is supposed to do. It tastes like a decadent, delicious treat without inducing calorie overload. I will certainly purchase this product again. My family insists on it!
