Wouldn’t it be awesome to move from one body to another at whim? Or, on second thought, it may not be such a good idea. At any rate, that’s what Edwina did when Lily Tomlin and Steve Martin come together in to demonstrate her story in “All of me.”
She hasn’t been on the scene for years and that’s a shame, but when she was, Lily Tomlin mastered comedy. Together, Lily Tomlin and Steve Martin were amazing. They could make one laugh just by being there. Tomlin had the ability to stop and start laughter on a glance.
In “All of Me,” the two keep the viewer entertained and rolling with laughter as demanding, crude and determined millionaire heiress along with her companion who is a controlled attorney. Steve Martin captured the role of attorney Roger Cobb expertly.
Tomlin as Edwina Cutwater is ill of health and preparing to pass on, but she has no desire to die. She solicits her attorney to find someone whose body she can assume. She has acquired a mediation master to transition her soul from her frail body into an individual who has by all indication no longer a desire to live. Terry Hoskins played by Victoria Tennant, plays the role of the individual willing to give up her life so Edwina can live as a healthy individual and finally enjoy life.
However, Terry has no desire to die. She is cunning and plans to live life after Edwina’s demise enjoying the lavish life. Through some fluke however, Edwina’s soul is transferred into the body of her attorney rather than Terry’s body and the fun is on.
When finally discovered that Edwina is in Rogers body, the goal is to get her out of his body into Terry’s. This is when the fun begins. From the time the mistake is discovered, the antics are hilarious as the male is in complete conflict with the female in this one body.
A hilarious movie with the creative genius of the writer coming out in several scenes. In addition the antics of Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin are simply unmatched. “All of Me” is an awesome movie.
Of course, there are not too many of Martin movies that are not awesome and Tomlin even though she has not made many or even any recently, has been known for being one of the best.
Tennant appeared recently in the made for television movie “William and Kate.” From 1986 through 1994, Tennant was married to Steve Martin which is a long time in Hollywood. Prior to their marriage, they worked together in two movies: “All of Me” and “L.A. Story.” Their marriage is one of the reasons Martin said he did not make good choices in love.
“All of Me” is on DVD and can be rented through NetFlix.
