Actress Gal Gadot (rhymes with “doll afloat”) knows something about beauty. She’s been cast as Wonder Woman in the upcoming Superman vs. Batman movie. Despite all the wear and tear of being an action hero, Gadot provided some secrets to healthy skin which includes a product containing Resveratrol.
What is that? I talked to both Gadot and Vine Vera’s Julie Marx about why it can be a superhero to your skin.
Why does an action hero need nice skin?
Gadot: Everyone needs nice skin. Are you kidding me? It’s healthy, first of all. Your skin is a mirror to our health. My looks is part of what I do and I make sure I take good care of it.
So you don’t want scars or weathered skin?
Gadot: I’d rather have smooth, silky skin.
And how do you get smooth, silky skin?
Gadot: Well first of all, I drink tons of water. I travel a lot, around the world, and I make sure to keep my skin hydrated. I use the Vine Vera peeling once a week or when I have a big event and want to feel glamorous. And it’s just amazing because it evens out my skin tone and makes everything smoothed out and keeps me feeling glamorous. I use their serum which is basically my favorite product of theirs. I use it as much as I can, usually twice a day. And it’s so nice because it’s light and not greasy and heavy. And it’s filled with vitamins and healthy oils. And in order to avoid my skin from getting dehydrated, I use the Vine Vera Day and Night cream. I use it morning and night and it’s very light and it absorbs really fast on the skin.

What is Resveratrol?
Marx: Resveratrol is a naturally-occurring polyphenols antioxidant that is found in some plant products like grapes and cocoa. It is categorized as a phytoalexin, an antimicrobial compound that is produced by plants to protect them from rough environments like excessive ultraviolet light, infections and climate changes.
Why would Resveratrol be beneficial in skin products?
Marx: Our skin is constantly being attacked by free radicals, highly reactive molecules that are both produced by our bodies and circulating in the air around us thanks to smoke and other air pollutants. Antioxidants such as resveratrol neutralize existing free radicals so they don’t damage our skin, and they prevent these harmful molecules from forming in the first place.
Toxins, sun exposure, and other irritants can damage your skin’s collagen and elastin to accelerate aging, wrinkles, and saggy skin. But resveratrol’s anti-inflammatory properties calm and heal the skin to curb chronic damage.
Collagen is the key structural protein in our skin that provides healthful elasticity. As we age, our estrogen levels shift, thus producing less collagen, and resulting in crow’s feet, plus droopy, thin skin and lackluster lips. Resveratrol functions like estrogen to maintain collagen levels and moisture for younger looking skin.
Young-looking skin is evidence of young, healthy skin cells. Our old skin cells are replaced by new ones at a remarkable rate: it only takes about a month for skin cell turnover. However, the older we get, the slower the rate. While there’s no way to entirely stop skin cells from aging, resveratrol encourages your body to expend energy maintaining healthy tissue, which extends the lifespan of cells and keeps your skin glowing.
The lasting effects of Resveratrol in the form of red wine is a short time. Also to get significant health benefits from Resveratrol in red wine, one would have to drink copious amounts. Is that the case with Resveratrol in facial products?
Absolutely not. By using the ingredient topically, the skin is able to more directly absorb the ingredients, especially because the products are paired with other ingredients that complement one another. Ingredients such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Avocado Oil and Seaweed Extract.
Just to be clear, people’s faces aren’t going to turn red, are they?
No – Resveratrol is the antioxidant found in red wine, and is not actually red in color.
What other anti-aging ingredients in your products work in conjunction with Resveratrol and how will it benefit people?
Vine Vera uses many ingredients that have potent anti-aging benefits. In addition to Resveratrol, Vine Vera employs key ingredients such as Olive Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, Green Tea, Seaweed Extract, Avocado Oil, etc.
