Reflections on Maturing (Growing Older) in America

by yak max

Attitude Is Everything!

I can remember an elder family friend pointing this truth out to me when I was a younger man and those words have been an inspiration to me ever since.

As a child I often wondered what was the purpose of learning because we were only going to be here for around 100 years and that was not enough time to learn everything, and after that time it would be time to go. Where? … Back to Heaven I supposed at that time. Oh the bliss of youthful ignorance.

My parents migrated to Los Angeles from Hot Springs, Arkansas in the early 1940s after the start of World War II to support the war effort and start a better life. I was born, raised and educated here and have spent the major part of my adult life here. I have been blessed to be alive in the second half of the 20th century when significant historical decisions (seeds planted) were implemented and now I am still around in the first quarter of the 21st century to see the results of the decisions (harvest time) that were made and judge the outcome.

I am extremely thankful to wake up in my right mind daily with God’s perfect peace in my heart and be able to use the discernment He has graced me with in my daily walk here.

The Learning Process

By gleaning from the teachings of my elders and keen observation of a variety of situations and circumstances through out my life, I have finally come to the point to where the scales are being removed from my eyes and the plugs are removed from my ears daily thereby revealing a clearer picture to me concerning my reason for being here at this time in history. If I were given a chance to go back in time and change anything in my life, I would not change a thing … everything had to work together in order for me to be in the position that I am in at this moment. Life is like a house of cards. If a card is disturbed in the center there is a possibility of the whole structure collapsing. The worst thing I can imagine at this point is for me to get amnesia and have to go back and start all over again. (smile)

The Blessings For Being Obedient To God’s Word

Currently I am satisfied with the progress I have made in my life (Proverbs 3:4-6). I have been blessed with a beautiful and caring wife for the past 30 years (Proverbs 31:10 – 31) and now I have the privilege of assisting in raising 4 beautiful Great-Grandchildren. I also have the time available to mentor children in K – 6th grades at the school attended by my youngest Granddaughter and Great-Granddaughter. God is good, life is sweet and the best is yet to come. Maybe I did something right?

Who says the Holy Scriptures does not work? I am here to testify that His Word does in fact work as advertised and it will not return to Him void. Amen and Amen.

God bless America, our troops and leaders and I pray the same for Israel.
