COMMENTARY | Sen. Rand Paul, according to the Washington Times, believes he has come up with a sure fire way to cut up Hillary Clinton and the Democrats. He has decided to remind everyone what a vicious cad – and worse – Bill Clinton has been toward women.
“Sen. Rand Paul, who has been in a bit of a tiff recently with the Clintons, says that any Democrat who has raised campaign money with former President Clinton should return the cash to protest his sexual behavior in the White House.
“Speaking on C-SPAN’s ‘Newsmakers’ program, in an interview airing Sunday Mr. Paul said Democrats are being hypocritical by criticizing Republicans as waging a war on women while at the same time embracing Mr. Clinton who was impeached for lying about a sexual relationship with a White House intern.”
Paul’s gambit is a little bit beguiling. What better way to counter the sordid “war on women” strategy than to remind everyone that the husband of the presumed Democratic front runner engaged in his own personal war on women? But then one remembers how well that worked in 1998 when the Lewinsky affair was still a fresh embarrassment.
Hillary Clinton’s response practically writes itself. That was all in the past. It was just about sex. It was a personal matter. What does it have to do with the fact that the evil Republicans want to starve children and kill old people or that Sandra Fluke can’t pay for her birth control pills? In short, what difference does it make?
Unfortunately Bill Clinton is not going to face justice, at least in this life, over all the horrible things he did to a whole slew of women, including Juanita Broaddrick, Kathleen Whiley, Paula Jones, Elizabeth Ward Gracen, and, of course, Monica Lewinsky. It will certainly not be enough to deny his wife the presidency.
Fortunately there are other things, more serious than Bill writhing on the floor of the Oval Office in the arms of an intern young enough to be his daughter, which can be laid at his wife’s feet. That is, of course, Benghazi and four dead Americans, the Watergate with a body count. Paul should leave Bill Clinton and his sexual predator problem alone.
