In December 2013, I purchased the Anker T300 Bluetooth Keyboard as an early Christmas gift to myself. I have a Samsung Galaxy tablet and wanted a keyboard that I could use for typing documents (such as this article-I’m using the keyboard at this moment). I tried using the keyboard on the tablet, but that wasn’t going to work as a long term solution . It took too long to type and I can’t turn auto correct on so nothing was formatted or properly spelled/punctuated. During my lunch breaks at work, I have been dabbling in some creative writing and I needed something that would help me get the job done fast and not hold me up. I’m normally a fast typist, but was spending too much time fighting with the tablet than actually getting any work done.
I started doing some research online and trying to see what was available in stores. I went to Best Buy but the cheapest Bluetooth keyboard that they had was around $80.00. There was no way I was going to spend that much on a keyboard, so I started browsing for products on Amazon and came across the Anker T300. It was priced right at $19.99 (not including shipping-with shipping I paid $28.44). I placed it in my cart and waited for my item to arrive.
Delivery and service
The order was placed on December 18 and was delivered by the 23rd. I was surprised at how timely my item was shipped and received given the fact that it was so close to the holiday. I thought there might have been a delay and that I would have to wait until after Christmas, but that was not the case which pleased me. The company was also interested in hearing my feedback and wanted to ensure that they gave a great customer experience, which they did.
Setting up the keyboard
It was easy to set up the keyboard. Inside the product box was a slip of paper instructing how to do the initial pairing. All I had to do was put in the batteries (which they provided), turn on the keyboard, then go to the Bluetooth settings on my tablet and search for the device. Once my device found the keyboard, I was able to easily pair and connect the device. Now that I’ve done the initial setup, all I have to do each time I want to use the keyboard is turn it on and my device automatically connects the keyboard.
I know people usually start with the good qualities of a product and then move on to the bad, but I’m switching it up. I want to end the review on a high note since it a good quality device. Besides, the only problem I have with the keyboard is sometimes it might take a moment for the keyboard to connect with the tablet (by moment I mean under a minute). This used to happen more when I first had the keyboard, but now it connects within seconds so this isn’t an issue for me anymore. Also, every once in a while, the keyboard might hiccup for a second and either not pick up my last keystroke, or act like the key is depressed and string the same letter until the hiccup is gone. These hiccups are infrequent and only last a second. I don’t take issue with this though because the time I’ve saved using this keyboard makes up for a hiccup here or there. Had I spent $80.00 on this keyboard, though, I might have more of an issue with it.
Not only is the keyboard a time saver, but it’s also lightweight, slim, and easily portable. I can fit the keyboard in the same bag I carry my tablet and it doesn’t add weight to the bag. Typing on this keyboard is very natural; as natural as any desktop keyboard I’ve used. They keys are just the right size. It does have arrow keys which allow you to move your cursor easily throughout your document, or to scroll through a page. Standard shortcut keys work as well such as Ctrl+B for bold type font. Holding down the Shift key and using the arrow key allows for highlighting within a document. The batteries last a while too. I do make sure to turn the switch off when not using it to conserve the battery (and prevent any unwanted keystrokes should I accidentally hit something). So far I’ve only had to change the batteries once since December (the first set of batteries were the off brand ones that Anker gave me).
Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. For the amount of money I spent, the product has exceeded my expectations. I look forward to creating more documents with my new toy.
