Nowadays the world is moving very fast. It is hard to keep up with it. There is so much to learn and so much to do. Due to this fast pace of time, the competition has increased a lot on professional and student level. Everyone is trying to be on the top by pushing others away or trying to out-trump them. Though everyone is trying to be on top by nobody bothers to be the best. There is a difference between these two ideas.
In any institute there are three types of students:-
- · Weak
- · Average
- · Intelligent
The weak students may be weak in their studies due to a few reasons like their picking power is a bit less, they are not motivated, they want to do something else beside study and etc.
The Intelligent students are all talented and the hardworking type. They are motivated. Most of them are naturally gifted because of which they are able to remain on top throughout their student life and even in professional life.
The real problem is the average students. They are neither weak nor they are very intelligent. By being suspended in a limbo between these two extremes is quite a predicament for them. Weaker students lead an easier life than the average students because they have already given up on their efforts but average students can’t do so because they know they can get better and that they have a chance but the question is HOW DO THEY GET BETTER???. It is not entirely their fault. It is the fault of the atmosphere they grew up in. We live in a place where we are forced to do things. In our homes, we are compared with other people for our marks and grades or their abilities. In our schools, colleges and universities our teachers prefer those students who are naturally talented, hardworking and their hard work easily brings results. They don’t consider those students who may work hard but their efforts may not bring any result. In my opinion, the saying,” As you sow, You shall reap” is getting older. It has lost its touch. If this was true then why the average student’s hard work doesn’t give any result. These student are continuously taunted for being nothing by friends, family and teachers for being weak despite all their efforts. These students carry a lot of expectations for their future and in the end put blame on God and Fate that it is not kind to them. They don’t know how to face their problems because they aren’t taught how.
In our country, every teacher and students are obsessed with grades. They think that higher grade means higher success rate. It is not the case. Nowadays success is measured in monetary terms and as a Muslim I believe that God gives money and power to anyone he pleases and if higher grades could get it then all the toppers and teachers would have been the most powerful and richest people in the world. We need to change this concept. Education should be about learning and observing and not about memorizing and away to get good jobs.
Holy Prophet says (Mafhoom)” Get Knowledge even though it may take you to China”. By getting knowledge he put a lot of emphasis on learning. So learn to get knowledge, not learn to earn.
The average students are always in a complex and they always consider themselves second class and inferior. They want those talents but they can’t have them. Everyone has a few qualities in them and he or she can get new qualities by working hard and truly focusing on it. The human brain is like any other muscle in our body which can be developed and made more mature through its proper training. By doing this anyone can attain new abilities. It is a slow procedure but by proper smart work and motivation it can be done.
Now coming to the main point, how to improve yourself and your abilities. The main core of every average person’s problem and source of tension is being in complex and be jealous of people superior and more successful than them.
In Islam, jealousy is called Hasad. It means to be unhappy on some one’s success. Hasad is totally forbidden in our religion. Everyone says that they refrain from it but actually they aren’t. They may deny it but it has become an important part of their subconscious mind. It is common nowadays.
Most students have this problem. They may deny it. They may pretend to be happy for their fellows’ grades and marks but actually they are not. It is hurting them on the inside.
Ways to solve these problems:-
- · Acceptance
In this phase, you have to accept that those people who are better than you are for a reason. They have something that you don’t. A skill or talent may be. Accepting things like these are much harder than it looks. It can even put a lot of emotional toll on a person. This phase is very important to overcome because in jealousy, the human brain is clouded with suspicions, negativity, anger and self-pity. According to a source, it is said that in such a case 90 percent of human brain capabilities are compromised and we have to work at just our 10 percent which is nothing. In this 90 percent, the student is doing nothing but fighting these negative feelings and is failing to acknowledge that other people can be better than him. He becomes obsessed with his efforts. Obsession is better defined as,” A case in which the human subject is absorbed in his efforts to do something to such an extent that he fails to recognize right from wrong.” A person should always be passionate about his work, not obsessive. Accepting your mistakes and acknowledging other people’s abilities is a very hard thing to do but it helps us in moving on. Moving on is very important, it relaxes your mind after sometime.
This is the second phase, a person should analyze his weaknesses and strengths. People always says that do a self analysis of yourself and find your weaknesses. I say it is wrong. If you go directly to your weaknesses and started analyzing them it will destroy you. First go see what are your strengths. It helps in giving you a moral support. Acknowledgment of other peoples success has already made you weak and if you first look at your weaknesses without knowing what your true capabilities are then I am afraid to say it will break you completely, shatter your personality once and for all. So I am emphasizing to first find your strengths and savor them and try to use them in an effective way. An important thing about weaknesses for me is that I do not believe in any weaknesses. A weakness is just an aspect of your personality, not a part of your nature. Nature of humans is just a complex mixture of different feelings. Weakness is only a weakness as long as you consider it a weakness if you learn to use it properly then it can become your great strength as I myself have experienced on many occasions. Allah created man and gave him good qualities and bad qualities, now it depends on the man how he uses them. He can use his good ones but if he works out his bad ones and turn them into his natural assets then imagine to what heights to which a man will extend.
The great people renowned throughout the history are great because of one thing all of them had in common Motivation. Motivation, inspiration, having a dream is what compels a common man to become a legend. These things are very important in our lives. Unless we have them we can’t do great things.
How to be motivated?
- · Every person has a dream since he is born to do something great and at least do something which makes him happy but we forget these things along the course of life due to many reasons. We should not do this because a dream is what pushes a person to his limits and beyond to get what he desires. So get a dream. It can be anything small or big but it should have a very positive feeling over you making you ready to fight any hardship that comes in your way and level it and achieve your target.
- · Believe in the fact that you were put in your current state for a reason and that the hardness of a situation is a measure of your skill and courage( Islamic ). It is a test of strength and believe that you cannot lose at any point and that you were put in this situation because Allah wanted to test you whether you are worthy for something greater or not.
- · Have people around you who understand you and can serve as a support if you are feeling downsized.
- · Learn to harness the power of positivity and try to control the outcome because it is all on you.
These are the things that can change the way many students in our country think and help them with their Problems
