Although they will likely have some more prestigious ceremonies throughout their lives, graduating from preschool can be a pretty big deal for some precious little folks. Whether you are the parent of a little one being promoted from pre-k to kindergarten or teach a classroom full of pint-size grads, showing up with a special cake will make the event even more exciting. These preschool graduation cake ideas are easy enough for even the novice baker, so you can wow the crowd without hiring a pro.
Although this cake may not technically be completely from scratch, it is still an easy and affordable way to create a cake sure to impress the entire class and their parents.
Check with your local bakeries -even those inside nearby grocery stores-to see if they offer edible image printing services. Many bakeries now have special printers that use food-grade ink and sugar sheets to create edible copies of photos. Have an edible image made from a photo of the class and place it atop a homemade sheet cake.
Roll of Graduates
If you have a steady hand, you can produce a memorable cake by piping the names of all of your preschool graduates in icing across the top.
Write “Congratulations Graduate” or a similar message in large print across the center of the cake and list the students’ names in the orders they will be called at the preschool graduation.
Using fondant can be a simple way to put forth a professional-looking cake, and creating a blackboard cake can be a great way to try it for the first time.
Cover a sheet cake in black fondant and write a graduation message on it with chalk-like candy, such as candy cigarettes or the stick from a package of Fun Dip candy. You can make it yourself by adding black food color gel to a chocolate fondant recipe, but you will save time and stress by purchasing pre-made black fondant.
Make a basic jellyroll cake using your favorite recipe. Cover it in white frosting and tie a ribbon to match the graduates’ caps and gowns or ask students to vote on a color for the theme of their graduation and use a ribbon in that color, if the preschoolers won’t be wearing caps and gowns.
Dr. Seuss Inspired Cake
Your preschoolers are probably fondly familiar with numerous Dr. Seuss books. Read “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” aloud to the classroom and discuss their dreams for kindergarten and beyond before making this special cake.
Decorate a layer cake in bright pastel layers to resemble the cover of the book. Place a small pink balloon on a straw into the top of the cake and write a congratulatory message in frosting, as well.
Preschoolers love cupcakes and they are easier to serve than traditional cake, especially in a classroom setting.
For a fun preschool graduation cupcake idea, turn unfrosted chocolate cupcakes upside down and spread a bit of chocolate frosting on the inverted bottoms. Place a chocolate covered graham cracker square atop each inverted cupcake. Place another dot of frosting in the center of each graham cracker square and place a piece of red rope licorice for the tassel.
No matter what type of cake you choose to make, your preschoolers are sure to appreciate it because they’ll know you made it just for them with love and pride in your heart.
