With the massive success of the latest X-Men film Days of Future past, there is speculation that the franchise is going to be expanding. The X-Men have a variety of ways that they could potentially expand their character base and their future movie potential. There are a number of solo movie possibilities and some additional super powered teams that could be created. Here are some of the more plausible possibilities for the expansion of the X-Men franchise.
The team of original X-Men came together, following the discovery that Jean Grey was not dead, and reunited as a new team. Cyclops was designated the leader and they began to operate separately from the X-Men. The newest villain Apocalypse comes from the pages of X-Factor and was a main villain that they faced on multiple occasions. The roster included Cyclops, Iceman, Jean Grey, Beast and Angel.
X-Men (Blue Team)
With the rising threats at home and abroad, Professor Xaiver calls together a large number of present and past X-Men members and student to form two teams. The Blue Team was put under the leadership of Cyclops and was set to handle the threats that happened abroad. The team consisted of Cyclops, Wolverine, Rogue, Beast, Jubilee, Gambit and Psylocke.
X-Men (Gold Team)
The Gold Team was established and given to the leadership of Storm. The members included Jean Grey, Iceman, Archangel, Colossus and Bishop. This team would be assigned the threats that happened domestically. Both teams were merged for larger threats that required more assistance. Days of Future Past introduced almost all of the characters needed to develop both of these X-Men rosters. Unfortunately, dividing the teams in such a manner might create more confusion than would be beneficial.
X-Force was formed by the time traveling mutant Cable (Nathan Summers) from students out of Xavier’s School for Gifted Students. Cable assembled the team to provide a quick strike force that could help prevent the present from producing the apocalyptic future he came from. The team originally was comprised of Cable, Warpath, Shatterstar, Sunspot and Domino. Several of these characters were introduced in the Days of Future Past.
The team is loosely connected to the X-Men and is based out of London. The team had some former members of the X-Men. The team is now no longer operating. The team was composed of Captain Britain, Rachel Summers, Kitty Pryde and Nightcrawler. Other members of the X-Men team rotated in and out of the roster as they needed.
These are some of the options that might be available for future X-Men spinoffs. The X-Men franchise has a variety of options for development and has a bright future. Whatever direction the future movies take X-Men fans are sure to flock to theaters. X-Men Days of Future Past was released in theaters on May 23, 2014.
