The first season of Agents of SHIELD had a few super cameos from the Marvel movie franchise to help boost the story line. While it seems to be difficult to continually see superheroes each week, they should pop up from time to time. However, there are some heroes that are automatically eliminated. All of the Avengers believe that Coulson is dead and for the first season needed to continue to believe that. If this need continues, all of the cast of the Avengers would be excluded. Also all of the heroes that Marvel sold the rights to would be eliminated. This means none of the X-Men and no appearances from Spider-Man.
The current situation with SHIELD and the need to rebuild might require Colson and company to reach out to some of their super powered allies. Thinking logically about the reality of these guest appearances, here are some characters that would make excellent guests on the series.
Mockingbird does eventually become a member of the Avengers and marries Clint Barton (A.K.A. Hawkeye). She gets her start in the ranks of SHIELD. Mockingbird is a minor character in comparison to some of the other Avengers but that makes it easier to generate an appearance.
The rights to the Daredevil character have reverted back to Marvel due to a lack of use. The Daredevil movie was in many ways a horrible representation of the character. There is hope for a Daredevil appearance with SHIELD. Daredevil is part of the new series of short films that will appear on Netflix. There is some potential that Daredevil could come to the aid of SHIELD should the need arise.
The Warriors Three
Fandral, Volstagg and Hogun compose the band of three warriors that often are found in the company of Thor. They came to earth with Lady Sif to convince Thor to return to Asgard. An appearance could be tied with some aspect of any of the Asgard stories. The three warriors already know Colson and could lend aid in some sort of situation. However, since Sif appeared in season one, it might make it less likely that any of the Warriors Three would make an appearance with our intrepid Agents of SHIELD.
Power Man and Iron Fist
One of the newest ventures that Marvel is doing is a run of short films on Netflix. Power Man and Iron Fist are part of that ongoing plan. An appearance from either of these characters might be used to promote that new venture and give some much needed character exposure. There was speculation that the character Mike Peterson actually was going to be Power Man.
The Falcon was introduced during the second Captain America movie. The Falcon came to the aid of Captain America and the Black Widow during their campaign against Hydra. Since the Falcon is an established character and not part of the Avengers, an appearance would make sense. The Falcon will have some role in the upcoming Avengers movie and it could be an effective promotion of the movie to have a tie in with the film prior to its release.
Colonel James Rhodes “Rhodey” has appeared in all three of the Iron Man films. The special effects required to bring War Machine to television might be an issue but a story line featuring him would bring some increased ratings to the show.
The Winter Soldier
At the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Bucky Barnes is seen looking at the Howling Commandos exhibit and remembering his past. The Winter Solider may be seen again with a different view of Hydra. In the comics, The Winter Soldier eventually becomes Captain America following the assassination of Steve Rogers. Making the Winter Soldier part of the good guys is not that much of a stretch.
Little Known Superheroes
There are dozens of superheroes that are little known to the general audience that could easily be tailored to the Agents of SHIELD series. These are heroes that have little exposure to the mainstream audience. Hard core comic book readers may have known the character Deathlok before his appearance on Agents of SHIELD but the vast majority did not. The reality is that Marvel could pull any number of heroes from the ranks of the little known to fill gaps in story lines.
New Super Powered Characters
Marvel could always create new characters to lend a hand to SHIELD. Generating new characters might be an easier way to give some additional super support without breaking the bank paying for guest stars to appear on the series. This option could be the most creative and the most cost effective means to add superheroes to the series.
These are a few of the possible heroes that could appear on the second season of Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD. The fact is that there are always heroes that could appear at almost any time. With the right story line and the right plan, Agents of SHIELD could have numerous appearances to help put the organization back on track. The second season is wide open for potential guest appearances.
