Sar kazum is an independent hip-hop artist from El Paso, TX that has been building up a serious buzz lately. He wasn’t born with a “silver spoon” and seen quite a few tribulations from being raised in the projects; however he never lost hope nor his sense of humor. He used those setbacks to his advantage by embarking upon a professional career in music.
Recently, I had the opportunity to speak with Sarkazum regarding musical background.
How would you describe your style?
My style is hip-hop music!!! I can do it all! I have no style! I can flip any word pattern scheme to anything! I can easily manipulate my vocal delivery to any beat. I’m a threat. My style is everybody who influenced me up to this point! (Wu Tang Clan, Jay-Z, Nas, Kanye West, Eminem, 50 Cent, Drake, Rakim, KRS-One, Biggie Smalls, 2Pac, Everybody who’s a legend pretty much!
What makes you different from other artists?
What makes different to other artist is I have my own professional recording studio, I make my own beats, I record myself, I mix myself, I master my own music myself, I fund myself, I’ve created my own budget for myself without the need of an investor or slanging to do it. I am fully independent! So when I do get into the situation that I need to be in…I won’t have all these hands trying to take what I’ve earned and I also won’t be a calamity to a major trying to f**k with me. I’ve studied the game for years and now it’s time for me to ACE the test!
What inspired you to pursue music?
Music has always been a true love of mine. I’ve always loved listening to music as a kid and being able to escape the world through it! I remember standing in front of the mirror pretending to rap-I never thought I’d actually be able to do it! To be honest, its seems as music always keeps pursuing me and it’s me who hasn’t captivated off of it due to trying to manage working a full time job, a personal life, and doing music on my off time. Many times I’ve said f**k music and went completely cold turkey, yet something always draws me back into it and every time that I came back to it I was even that much more of a force to be reckoned with than before. Now, I am pursuing music because I want to capture the world through my music. I am not in it for the fame, but in it for the acknowledgement! I just want to leave my stamp so that the day that I do decided to leave the music world, I would have left them with ‘my everything’ laid before them…to always fall back on and listen to and inspire that next young artist to do what I did and more!
What is your source of motivation?
My source of motivation is all of those around me always telling me that I got what the industry is looking for and that I just need to get out there and do it! So that’s exactly what I’m going to do from here on out! Plus, every time that I’ve released a music project I’ve always had people hitting me up trying to put me on, but I’m not trying to get screwed in some b.s. record deal just to say that I’m a signed music artist! At the end of the day, a record deal is a business loan and those percentages that they throw at you or keep between the lines in your record contract can leave you in debt for life! So I play it smart!= Which leads to the answer to your next question…I’m am going to stay indie for now and create a brand for myself and once I create that ‘brand’, then I will decide if I should stay indie or go major. Both have their goods and bads, and you won’t really know what’s what til’ you are presented with the situation! And at the end of the day the bigger picture is what I’m going to run with.
