Parties and celebrations are used to celebrate the 4th of July all over the nation. And what’s a party without amazing desserts to go with it? Create patriotic, all-American sweets for this July 4, and show off your pride in the country.
The 4th of July is a fun holiday. It’s summer, and many people celebrate with fireworks, pool parties, barbecues and maybe even a few alcoholic beverages. Add patriotic desserts to the menu to make any gathering complete.
Apple pie: They say nothing is more American than apple pie, right? You don’t have to decorate or experiment with color, just bake a basic apple pie and you’ve got the perfect patriotic dessert.
Birthday cake: Technically, the 4th of July is America’s birthday. And how do we celebrate birthdays? With cake, of course. A red velvet cake with white frosting and blue icing decoration is perfectly patriotic. But if you’re truly adept at baking, go for a “surprise inside” or marbled cake that incorporates all the colors of the flag.
Sheet cake: Not a master baker? Cheat with a simple sheet cake. With white icing and fruit, it’s not to hard to create an American flag. Bright red strawberries, cherries or raspberries taste great with blueberries.
Cupcakes: Get out your bowls and start mixing batter. Make red velvet cupcakes and white cupcakes. Decorate with blue and white icing, and you’ve got all the patriotic sweet stuff you need.
Sugar cookies: It’s not hard to make sugar cookies, and the good thing about them is their ability to be shaped. Use cookie cutters to create stars or rectangle shapes. Frost the rectangles in red, white and blue. The stars should be white, like the ones on the American flag. But if you’re feeling festive, feel free to add edible glitter in red and blue to your white cookies.
Chocolate bark: Few desserts are as simple to make or as versatile as chocolate bark. You’ll want to make white chocolate bark, of course. Add blue and red candies to the melted chocolate and allow it to harden into a patriotic delight.
