There was a time in my life that I had cable television. Today, I seriously cringe when I even think about cable. I am happy to say that my family has not had cable television in over four years! We have learned to live without it. Now, don’t get me wrong I am not saying we don’t enjoy sitting down to watch a show, but we do it when it fits in our schedule. However, I learned a few things about Netflix over the years that truly make it a parent’s best friend.
If you have children, you probably know that there are times when children sneak. They will try to watch something that you do not approve of. Kids often think they can get away with this type of behavior because when a family has cable television parents’ typically cannot view what has been watched. However, when anyone watches a show on Netflix, you can see what was watched, when it was watched and even what time the show was watched. Parents win, sneaky children lose!
Unlike other television options, you can set Netflix to whatever parental ratings you want. If you have small children or even if you have grandchildren that you do not want to watch an R rated show, you simply set the parent controls. When you set the parental controls all the shows and movies which are on Netflix and that are above your specific rating won’t even show on the screen. If kids don’t see it, they won’t miss it! I should note that if you want to watch a movie with your loved one, you can easily increase the parental rating for the evening.
If your household is as busy as mine, chances are that you will need to schedule down time. You may not be available to watch a television show during the time it airs on cable TV. However, with Netflix you can watch whatever show interests you on ‘your’ schedule. I set can a certain time for my children to watch their shows, and then I can watch whatever I want too while they are sleeping. It’s perfect for a busy family.
I am so happy that my family made the switch years ago. I would dread large cable bills.
