It was unusually cold this winter. Because I work from home, I decided not to go out in it quite a few times. But I fantasized about the days when it would be warm and I would go out. I thought about laying out on my back lawn in my new bikini and sipping some iced tea. Then I looked at myself in the mirror and saw that my belly and thighs had expanded by a significant margin.
So what did I do?
1. Paleo. The thing that appealed to me about the paleo diet is that it’s all about what humans ate before we started processing our foods. The idea of cutting out processed foods was important to me, because I will admit, they are my weakness. I did break a few times (stupid fast food), but I felt really great when I kept my meals to strictly protein and veggies. The only downside? It’s kind of expensive to eat only meat and veggies. Healthy food is expensive! But I put a time limit on how long I would eat exclusively Paleo and budgeted that out.
2. Yoga. I had fallen out of the habit of doing yoga for quite some time. But one day I happened upon an article discussed the crazy amount of benefits to yoga, and I couldn’t ignore it any longer. I rolled out my mat and got to work, taking care to look for weight loss cycles that focused on building muscle. Another reason I chose yoga is because it lowers your stress levels, and I had a feeling that starting new diet might make me cranky. It did, but any time I felt cranky I just did a little yoga.
3. Ten Minute Dance Cardio. When I felt like I had energy to burn, or even when I felt like I needed to boost my energy, I set a timer for ten minutes and blasted Beyonce’s new album, or some old school Lady Gaga. I tried to make myself do this at least once a day, just to give my body that extra push.
4. So Much Water. The health benefits of water need not be proven, but they do bear repeating. I kept tally marks for every glass of water that I drank, trying to push myself to have at least 6 glasses a day! My skin looks amazing now, and the water helped me to feel full.
So how much did I lose? Its been a little over two weeks and I’ve already lost eight pounds. But the weight isn’t as important as how great I feel and how much more energy I have. I also look much more toned and wouldn’t feel self conscious about a nice day in my bikini sometime soon.
