When traveling to or across the U.S., we all have an idea of which cities are out there worth visiting. However, there are plenty of other overlooked cities all over the country worth a visit.
Akron is an underrated city due to its close proximity to Cleveland. Despite not being the home of any major league sports franchise, the city does have the Akron RubberDucks minor league team. Also in Akron, the Akron Zoo as well as the city’s Art Museum. Of course if you were to experience everything in Akron faster than you thought, you could always take the 45 minute trip to the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
Albuquerque, New Mexico
A southern city best known for having a funny name, Albuquerque probably has a lot more visitors since the ”Breaking Bad” phenomenon. Other than trying to find fictional characters you can spend your time in Albuquerque at an Isotopes baseball game, visiting the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center, or enjoying yourself at the city zoo. If you are up for a road trip, Roswell is a three-hour drive away.
Austin is the quiet sibling to Houston and Dallas. As the state’s capital, there is still plenty to do. A zoo, plenty of museums, and probably the most notable of all, Austin is home to the South by Southwest Festival this is a city on the rise. The Alamo in San Antonio is also only a little over an hour away.
Baltimore is an overlooked city mostly because of its proximity to major cities Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. Baltimore still has plenty of charm and things to do. The home to the Orioles and Ravens, there is also the Babe Ruth Museum for sports fans. Perhaps the most notable feature the city has to offer is the unique harbor where you will also find the Baltimore Aquarium and plenty of crab cakes.
Buffalo, New York
Bordering Canada, Buffalo is a city far away from the fast-paced New York City many assume all of New York is like. Buffalo gets beat up a lot because their two major sports franchises are consistently at the bottom of the standings. Despite this, the city still has a polite blue collar charm. Beautiful Niagara Falls is not far away and the city has its own zoo.
Come for the Fonzie Statue and stay for the Harley Davidson Museum. Milwaukee is a major city often forgotten due to Chicago being so close. Milwaukee is probably best known for its high number of breweries, many of which offer tours.
