Ornithine is a naturally occurring amino acid which plays a role in the urea cycle. Used in muscle building products, Ornithine is used internationally in products and was recently granted GRAS (Generally Regarded As Safe) status. I talked to expert Rob Paul of ON about the properties of Ornithine and how it’s implemented in products in America.
Ornithine naturally occurs in our bodies. Why do we need to boost levels?
The unique benefit of ON is the combination of ornithine and caffeine. While ornithine alone has been utilized for many years as a supplement to remove toxins from the body and release energy, empirical studies from our group reveal that combining ornithine with caffeine significantly improves physical stamina and concentration (body and mind). Our studies have shown that caffeine with ornithine results in a 150% increase in concentration and 170% in stamina over caffeine alone
How does it work with caffeine which is already an energy booster and wouldn’t the user experience a steep “come down”?
Ornithine and caffeine together elevate stamina and concentration without increased central or peripheral nervous stimulation or spikes in insulin. The interaction between ornithine and caffeine is mediated through multiple neural systems that reduce the response of the body to stress. The “crash” associated with energy drinks is tied to the large amounts of sucrose that result in an insulin spike following consumption as well as excessive levels of caffeine. ON contains only 8 carbs per serving (30 calories) and caffeine equal to a cup of black tea. As such, consumption of ON does not result in a “crash” secondary to high sucrose or caffeine levels.
Being that Ornithine plays a part in the creation of uric acid, wouldn’t this increase the frequency of urination?
Ornithine will not increase frequency of urination as it does not influence fluid dynamics. Rather it helps the body convert toxins into components of urea. d. The only increase in urination ON offers is that which would naturally occur with the consumption of any liquid beverage with a moderate dose of caffeine (similar to a soda)
Would this product be primarily for exercise training or would the normal consumer use this and would there be an advising on limiting consumption?
We consider this beverage “the natural boost you need for life.” We are all living in a 24/7 world. A working mom’s schedule – without a workout – is as much in need of a boost as someone who is preparing for a spin class. ON works well in helping consumers power through the afternoon drag or get that motivation for exercise. The only limitations someone need to put on their daily consumption of ON would be the same limitations they would put on a cup of black tea.
How does the product fit into the natural products category and what are the other benefits and assets of the product?
ON has all natural sweeteners from cane sugar, stevia and erythritol. ON contains no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives. It’s non GMO, soy and gluten free, and kosher certified.
