We are deep into planting season, and there are lots of ways to get creative with decorating your home with plants. When doing your spring cleaning it is a good idea to look at things and try to determine if you can use them as part of your garden display. They will actually end up being turned into planters. This is pretty easy to do as long as they don’t have rust, and large holes on the bottom. Below are some ideas on what items you can give life to again and use as planters.
Old Grill Planter
Do you have an old grill, that you can not use as a grill anymore, or don’t want to use as a grill? Then why not turn it into a planter. The first thing you will need to do is give it a good cleaning. Then remove the grate that is inside of the grill. The next step is to close the vents that are usually found on the bottom of the grill. Then you can add the dirt to the bottom, and fill about halfway. Then you can add some flowers that have already started to grow into the grill. The flowers should sit so that they are coming out of the top of the grill. As far as the lid is concerned you can get rid of that since you will not need it. Be sure to add some water so that your plants can continue to grow.
If your kids have those large Tonka trucks that they used to play with, than you can turn it into a planter. Once again cleaning it out properly is very important. You will need to add a few small holes into the bottom of the truck. Use a small drill bit and place a least two little holes in the bottom. If you don’t have a drill than you can use some scissors to make the holes. Since this is a toy you will need to put some plants in the truck. Just let any small children who visit your house know that they can not play with the truck since it is now a planter.
You probably have seen the old strainer planters before. The strainers look nice in the yard and are very easy to use again. Purchase some potted plants, and transfer them to the strainer. The strainer works great for small tree type plants. This thing works great since you don’t have to put a lot of holes in the bottom.
Tool box planter
If you have an old tool box, than you may need to scrape some of the rust off, that it is sure to have. You will also need to drill some holes in the bottom of the tool box. Using small size plants you can fill the box with plants, and place in the yard. Be creative with a placement of the tool box.
