Let me first say this, I am not for or against “Obama-care” I am only going try to explain it so we all can understand it and what it means to us. There has been endless debate about the Obamacare since President Obama sign it in 2010, there are many who are outraged by it across the Nation. https://www.healthcare.gov , https://www.Obama-care.org
Obama-care does not create public or private insurance. Obama-care is meant to expand and improve public health insurance like Medicaid and Medicare options. It also subsidizes and regulates “marketplaces” so Americana can buy private health insurance by using “group buying power”.
Yes, the Medicaid and cost assistance are subsidized by the taxpayers. There is criticism that they are hand outs to those who do not want to work. It is said the most of the newly insured are working low income families who could not afford insurance before.
Obama-care has four “mental plans” and they are Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum as well as a catastrophic plan. I have not found an explanation for these plans. Obama has cut $716 billion in Medicare and Medicare Advantage related spending.
Obama-care has provided a wide range of “improvements” for seniors. As a senior, this is what it means; co-pay for doctor’s visits, emergency room visits, hospitals stays, and a $250 send down.
One of the major reforms is the closing the Medicare Part D “dounut hole” (whatever that was) and provided better quality preventive services to seniors. One of the things seniors are seeing now is their membership to a fitness club or the YMCA is no longer covered, at one time it was because it was a preventive service. The thought behind this idea was if seniors were exercising they would not be sick and the doctors’ visits costs lowered. Now, because many seniors cannot afford membership fees to fitness clubs or the YMCA some seniors are not exercising as they should.
Under Obama-care if you do not have health insurance there will a minimum penalty/ tax in 2014 of $95 per person and can be triple (3 times) that if you have family. In 2016 it will increase to$695 per person and it is triple (3 times) that if you have a family. These figures are based on incomes of $9,500 to $37,000; however, if your income is above $37,000 the penalty/tax will increase by 2.5 percent . However, the cost is never going to be higher than the “bronze” health plan.
