I normally have a lot of problems with scents in body washes and creams. Usually citrus scents are not so bad for me so when I was looking for a body wash with Salicylic Acid and saw the Neutrogena Body Clear in Pink Grapefruit. I opened it up for a quick sniff and was sold. I could not wait to take a shower with this lovely scent.
Why I wanted a body wash with Salicylic Acid
Normally people use Salicylic Acid for acne. That is not the problem that I have but I tend to get eczema or other allergic type skin rashes and have found that a mild Salicylic Acid formula is good for getting rid of or preventing things before they start. I have tried using a gel but sometimes that is a little strong so I thought perhaps a body wash would be perfect. I was really just browsing the products on the shelf when I found this.
Description of the Body Wash
The bottle: Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash comes in a clear bottle that is oval shaped with a flip up top. I find the top a little tricky since I can not see in the shower without my glasses on. The cover is a milky white color and it is hard to figure out how to open it, by feel alone. Now that I know how it works it is not a problem but still it is not my favorite spout. The bottle contains 8.5 oz.
Look of the Body Wash: The liquid inside is clear and pink with little bursts of something or other that seems slightly exfoliating but they eventually disappear when you rub them against your skin. I find the look of the liquid really interesting with these little bits suspended evenly in the body wash.
The Scent: While I originally was looking for a Salicylic Acid body wash that quickly took a bad burner to the heavenly pink grapefruit scent. This is such a natural grapefruit scent that I could not wait to try it in the shower. The scent is not overpowering, but not so slight that you won’t notice it. I did not notice the scent lingering much after my shower but maybe I was just used to it. The scent really sells this stuff.
Active Ingredients: Salicylic Acid 2%
Warnings: This is meant for external use and care should be taken not to get it in your eyes. If you do get it in your eyes rinse thoroughly with water. The bottle states to keep away from Children and if swallowed to contact poison control immediately. One last warning regards using in conjunction with other products. When this product is used in conjunction with other potentially drying creams gels or washes, it might intensify the effects. It is best to try new products one at a time.
How well it works
How well it works for my eczema: Since I have been using this I have noticed only a slight reduction to the few patches that I have but they do not seem any worse and I do not have any new patches. The wash does a nice job of cleaning my skin all over without feeling as though it leaves my skin overly dried out. Overall I think my skin looks better but I have also been trying a new lotion so in fairness it could be the the lotion.
Acne: I really do not have any acne so I can not comment on how well it works for getting rid of or controlling acne.
Will I buy this again?: I will continue to use this body wash because it seems gentle enough, and I just can’t get enough of that lovely grapefruit scent. The other thing I like about this body wash is that the little bits of whatever is in there seem to help with exfoliation but they are not so big that they are scratchy, and they seem to disappear while rubbing them into my skin. The body wash works up a nice lather but is not overly foamy. I work out in the yard a lot, and tend to sweat quite a bit when I do. I find that the Body Clear Grapefruit body wash gets me really clean but is still gentle on my skin.
