I previously wrote how you can cure Wet Tail in hamsters using a method that isn’t safe and partly no longer on the market. I’m writing this to share a natural cure for Wet Tail in hamsters that is readily available.
Firstly you need to know the signs your hamster has Wet Tail and not just diarrhea. If you’ve not been feeding your hamster cheese and other fresh vegetables, and your hamster has diarrhea then there is a good chance that your hamster has Wet Tail.
What you need is a jar of baby food that doesn’t contain meat, and a product called Vibactra. Vibactra is an organic formula designed to help enhance immunity through natural antibiotic and antioxidant properties. It’s used on just about any pet you can think of for any number of conditions.
Here are the directions I used. I got a lid like off an Ocean Spray 48 ounce bottle. I put one teaspoon of baby food in the lid, then shook the Vibactra really well, and put two drops on top of the baby food. I then mixed the food. I simply placed the food in front of their living space and through-out the day the hamster consumed the food and medicine. If your hamster is too sick to eat you may need to take them to a vet. You should start this treatment at the first sign of Wet Tail and continue treatment for a full ten days.
It is important you don’t overdose your hamster. They can have fresh water; you do not need to put this in their water like the previous Wet Tail cures. Just make sure that your hamster is eating the baby food.
The next day, clean the lid really well, the bedding in the cage, and even your hamster’s bottom. Be gentle as possible, and calm. Your hamster basically has the flu. And anyone that has had the flu knows you don’t want to be bothered. You have to clean up ALL traces of the diarrhea from the cage. You can also give your hamster some Pedialyte, which you can get at the Dollar Tree. No need to pay full price. You may have to give it to your hamster in drops. Do this during the time you are cleaning the cage, the less hassle to the hamster the earlier they heal.
The hardest part of dealing with a hamster that has Wet Tail is staying ahead of the diarrhea. If you can do that, you have it made. It also helps if your hamster was friendly before they ended up sick. Other wise you could end up getting bit from time to time.
When I get a new hamster that I fear will end up with Wet Tail, I do this treatment to avoid it all together. There is no harm is doing preventative medicine, especially when it’s natural and organic!
Vibactra’s ingredients are as follows: Olive leaf, Mustard seed, Black see, Pau D’acro, Cloves, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Ethyl Alcohol, and Filtered water.
I got my Vibactra off Amazon, but if you are in a pinch and need it now, call around health food shops and ask them if they know of anyone who might carry it. I’d also like to think in time Pet Supplies Plus, and Pet Smart would start carrying it if they don’t already.
Vibactra is about $30 and one fluid ounce. I rate it ten out of ten stars!
