Stress and the Body
Everyone has stress, and it can affect your body in a very negative way. When you are overly stressed you can experience headaches, nausea, and upset stomach. When your stress is too high you could get chest pain, high blood pressure, and trouble with sleeping. If you don’t sleep your body becomes even more stressed out.
Causes of Stress
So what is making you stressed? Everyday life can be stressful. If you are the caregiver to family members and children then more than likely you are stressed. Work and co-workers could be the problem. High demands of your personal time can take a toll on your overall happiness. Here are some tips to help you lower your stress and relax.
Stress Relieving Teas
Believe it or not it could start with something as simple as tea. You can try chamomile or green tea. Making it and sitting down to some “me” time is relaxing, but the tea actually helps with your stress. Chamomile, works with your brain in a similar way like Valium. If you are currently jittery or nervous it can help calm you. You can also find Chamomile in pill form, or even better grow your own and teach yourself how to make the tea. Green tea has a amino acid that helps calm and reduce your anxiety. A great way to start your day is with a cup of warm green tea. Don’t go to bed hungry. Some times if your blood sugar is low you will become antsy. Grab a handful of walnuts, or a bit of chocolate and hit the sack.
Stress and Sleep
If not sleeping is stressing you out then try Valerian. It acts as a natural non-addictive sleep aid. It can be taking nightly to help you ease into sleep. Take note that this is to help you sleep and should only be taken at night. It goes great with a cup of chamomile to help you drift off to sleep. Add some lavender scents for an overall affect.
Exercise to Relieve Stress
Believe it or not, if you exercise regularly you will not only feel better, but it helps relieve stress. You get relief from anxiety immediately from a walk or workout. Long term it helps keep your stress levels at bay. It’s a double win. You feel mentally and physically feel better. There is a certain time it takes from each workout to feel the effect, usually after 20-30 minutes after a workout.
Change the way you think. Yes, this part is harder, but worth it. Some people keep a negative mentally and it can seriously make you sick. Worrying is a wasteful use of energy that could be going towards doing something positive. If something is bothering you can try to solve it, even in baby steps and you can stop worrying about it. Give mediation a try. It can be used anywhere you go at anytime. It only takes minutes, and it can really turn your day around. It is know to help you with focus and stress.
You can get a handle on stress before it takes hold of you. Always know that you are in control, but if stress seems to be taking control of your overall daily life have a talk with your doctor.
