Reading books has always been my favorite pastime. Whenever I get chance to grab a book, I never lose it. I have read a lot of books of different taste throughout my life. But autobiographies give me pleasure of whole another level. While enjoying a well-written autobiography, I feel like drowning in the life of another person, and it seems like I am living some part of his life, especially when he/she is a celeb. Among many autobiographies that I read, I would like to discuss my favorite ones here:
I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action
I have loved to watch Jackie Chan movies since childhood. I have always wondered how he could do all these stunts! He was like a superhero for me. I wished to know a lot more about his life and finally got the chance to read his autobiography, ‘I Am Jackie Chan: My Life in Action’. I was sad and surprised to know about the unpleasant childhood of my superhero. It was exciting to learn about his rising as a stunt artist and martial art expert. His love life was also described well in the book. That part where he wrote about spending time with his first love Oh Chang, an opera student, it gave me goose bumps as a teenager. I was so heartbroken to read about their brake up just because of Oh Chang’s dad. About their last meeting he wrote: “Goodbye” she said. “Will I ever see you again?” Stuffing my hands in my pockets, I turned and begun to walk. “No”, I said, my voice flat. “Not like this.”
He wrote about all his struggles and finally becoming the superstar Jackie Chan in a very engaging voice. It will take you to another world until you finish it.
David Beckham: My Side
I love to watch soccer and a huge fan of Manchester United Football Club. This autobiography, David Beckham: My Side, was released in 2003. To be honest, if you are a football fan and you love David Beckham, you can’t stop reading this book without finishing it. This book tells Beckham’s side of story about his exit from Manchester United. He also discussed his England career and the incident of 1998 world cup, when he got a red card while playing against Argentina. He made his point very clear to them who criticized him. Apart from the game, he also shared his personal life, how he met his wife Victoria, their relationship and their children.
Moments
This is the latest autobiography I read. It was written by Cristiano Ronaldo, one of the most skilled and famous football players of these days. I found it very interesting and different as it was full of lots and lots of pictures of his. Though I found him too young to write an autobiography, he made it clear in the introduction that it is not the story of his life, just some moments shared with his fans. Being a huge fan of Manchester United, this book took my breath away as it was dedicated to Cristiano Ronaldo’s victories with MU with which he a football star. It also included the stories of his childhood. Doing the justice to the title, he actually shared some moments of his life with the readers, which I seemed very enchanting to me.
