Anemia is an ailment caused by lack of enough blood in our bodies. Therefore it is a disease that affects the circulatory system,a very vital system in our bodies, responsible for almost everything else. It results from lack of enough red blood cells responsible for transport of blood to other regions of the body. Anemia can even result in death if not attended to. Let me share my experience with this disease.
The first thing I noticed (of course, being a lady means we take a lot of care on one of our greatest ornament, the skin) was my skin had turned pale. If that was the only effect I had in body, I would have immediately changed my skin lotion. I would also occasionally experience difficulties in breathing and fatigue. Further, I would feel tired all the time and my concentration was below average. I was here and there at the same time! These are the major immediate body effects that necessitated my visit to the doctor who diagnosed me with anemia. I particular recall when he pulled my eye lashes down and messed my mascara!
There are various ways in which we can have anemia treated. I was put on a diet because apparently, mine was caused by poor dieting. I also sought medical attention when it was at its mild stage. The doctor proposed that I stick to a well balanced diet with a lot of iron. I began taking a lot of liver, beef, beans, peanuts and drinking fruit juices especially orange juice. Those meals are highly rich in iron but the orange juice was supposed to provide me with Vitamin C. Vitamin C will help regulate blood sugar level while iron will assist in acceleration of production of blood in the body. My doctor also told me that there were over the counter iron supplements sold from pharmacies and also iron injections but he preferred me taking the natural method because my case was not very serious. Accident victims, especially those accidents that result in a lot of loss of blood are put into blood transfusion programs to restore their supply of blood and prevent anemia.
My ailment was unique because I was pregnant. The doctor actually told me that anemia is very common in pregnant women and can lead to a lot of problems for the unborn. I had to work extra hard, ignoring lack of appetite attitudes because I had to deal with two people here, me and my unborn child.
My advice to people is to embrace the culture of proper dieting and exercise regularly. Most of the diseases affecting as are as a result of “poor maintenance”! Maintain your bodies.
