As a mom of two, I rarely wear four-inch heels anymore. After all, heels aren’t appropriate for sandboxes and mommy and me classes. Of course, since I spend most of my time running after my toddler or sitting on the floor playing Legos, I like to be comfortable too. Thus, I reserve the stiff skinny jeans and silky blouses for birthday dinners and date nights. At the same time, I don’t like to look like I just rolled out of bed either. Thus, I stock my closet with these must-have fashions for busy moms.
Crossbody bags are a functional way to keep your belongings together while you are chasing after your kids. Pick one that is big enough to hold the kiddy essentials (a diaper, travel-sized wipes, sunscreen and a snack) so you can ditch your diaper bag for short outings. I’m currently in love with this fashionable yet functional cross body bag from Nine West.
I seldom pick up an iron because, one, I don’t like to iron and two, I don’t like the idea of a hot, heavy iron anywhere near my toddler. I could invest in a hand-held steamer. However, I’d rather purchase items that don’t wrinkle easily. This Voyager Knit dress is designed with “wrinkle resistant” travel fabric. Every mom needs a black dress with an easy shape. It matches with everything. Moms looking for office attire might want to try an iron-free collared shirt. Jones New York has a wide variety of colors and styles.
I tend to wear jeans or black pants a lot. When I’m really tired, a bright, high quality t-shirt helps me feel more alive. Victoria’s Secret Pink always has a variety of colors in their essential v-neck tees. They are soft and pair well with most casual looks.
Comfortable, Stylish Flats
I like to save the running shoes for when I’m going on a walk or working out. However, the rest of the time I’m either in comfortable sandals, boots or stylish flats. A pair of cute flats can take an outfit from blah to wow. I like these chambray dot ballet flats from American Eagle.
Tunics are a fancy alternative to a t-shirt. The length is perfect to wear with leggings and you can dress a tunic up or down. Also, they are good for hiding a little bit of excess tummy. The lace details on this sheer sweater tunic from Free People will make you look anything but frumpy.
A Chunky Cardigan
For chilly days, a chunky cardigan is the perfect piece to throw on. In the fall and winter, I like to wear mine with leggings, tall socks and boots. In the spring, I put it over dresses to stay warm. Choose one in black, gray or another neutral color so it will match with everything.
These fashions are great for busy moms, or any woman who likes to be comfortable, yet stylish.
