When I first got my iPhone I started looking for a stylus. I have used the mini ones and the longer ones. Both the mini and the longer pen sized ones have an identical stylus tip. The mini stylus is nice because you can carry it with your phone or in your pocket. Other than the convenience of a small stylus I prefer the longer stylus. The mini stylus will do in a pinch.
This little stylus is just under 2″ long and about as wide as a pencil. The set comes with five in a variety of colors. The stylus tip is plastic but hollow and soft so when you press it it will collapse. On the other end there is a cord attached with a little plug that you can use to attach it to your iPad or iPhone’s ear phone jack. This simply gives you a way to keep it from getting lost. I thought that I would like that but it is actually annoying having the thing dangling like that and so I never use the plug. If you did not want it you could cut it off, but there is a loop in the cord so you could attach one to a keychain so that you would have it handy if you ever needed to use it.
Using the Mini Stylus
The Mini Stylus will work with any touch screen phone or tablet. I use it primarily with my iPad, but have used it with my iPhone too. I like to use it for games on the iPhone that require a quick touch. My husband uses it with his nook. I will be honest and tell you that I really prefer using the longer stylus. I have some that are exactly like this but longer and without the plug and cord. It is just easier to handle the larger one. The thing is that the longer ones can be a pain to carry around so I keep one of the minis in my purse in case I ever need one when I am out.
The stylus works just like your finger on the touch pad. In fact I think it works better. I like using a stylus for games like Draw Something. It is so much easier to draw with a stylus than it is with your finger. On top of that if you play a lot of games or even do a lot of typing with an on screen keyboard, it can start to bug your finger after awhile. I find it much more comfortable to use a stylus and would not be without on.
How long do they last
I have never had one wear out myself, but my husband has worn out the stylus tip on two of them. He plays a game where he has to slide the stylus across the screen quickly and we think that is how his stylus tips wore out and eventually developed tears in them. He is on his third since about a year ago so they do hold up pretty well.
Final Thoughts and Rating
I am going to give this Mini Stylus 3 stars and I do recommend it for it’s small size. The size makes it easy to carry in a pocket or purse without getting in the way. When at home though, I prefer using a longer stylus because it is just easier to hold in my hand.
