I attended the California State University for a Nickelodeon meet & greet with the creators of the Sanjay and Craig cartoon. They were handing out buttons, finger puppets and autographed posters to everyone. The only reason I know anything about this cartoon is because I have two nephews who always watching it on the television. The creators, Jim Dirschberger and Jay Howell were extremely nice in person and went out of their way to shake hands with everyone. The University was the perfect space to have this event. There was plenty of room so you did not feel confined at any time. You were also free to wander and come back at any time you pleased. There was no security, so you did not feel like you were constantly being watched.
There was also a yummy buffet for everyone to enjoy. The buffet had fruit, salad and chips. A live band was entertaining there as well. It was made up of a bass guitar, drums and guitar that charmed the crowd. Usually live bands at events are so loud you cannot enjoy yourself, but the volume here was perfect. Everyone who was paying attention to the band seemed to really enjoy them.
The weather was couldn’t have been more perfect for this event. The sun was out and there was not a cloud in the sky to be seen. After the creators met with everyone, the event was moved inside where a nice discussion took place. Admirers had an open floor to ask them questions. There were many future cartoon illustrators asking questions and the Sanjay and Craig creators answered them all in a very kind way. No question was off limits to ask them and it was very informative. They stressed on going to a good school that taught you the tools you needed to succeed. Everyone there was very receptive and they rewarded them with a standing ovation at the end. It was a pleasant event for everyone there.
