May 2014 has been buzzing with excitement over superhero movies. Two movies have hit the screen this month coming on the heels of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. These movies have made millions and millions worldwide. Looking to the future of the superhero flick shows that May 2016 may be even bigger than May 2014. There are at least three superhero movies slated to release during May 2016. It may be the month of the superhero.
Captain America 3
Marvel has slated the third chapter of the Captain America series to be released in early May. There are few details about the movie but it can be assumed that Cap will be continuing his adventures with the Falcon by his side. With several Marvel movies happening between now and then, there is a huge potential for guest appearances. It can be assumed that Chris Evans will be returning as the star spangled superhero and that he will be battling another plot by the terrorist organization Hydra. Could another villain connected to the secret organization rise from the ashes to haunt the sentinel of liberty? Currently the movie is set to go toe to toe with Batman Vs Superman scheduled to release the same weekend.
Batman vs Superman
The hype is on the rise for the sequel to the Man of Steel. With photos of Batman, from behind the scenes, released earlier this month fans are getting even more excited. The casting for the movie reveals Henry Cavill returning as Superman, Ben Affleck will be Bruce Wayne/ Batman, Gal Gadot is cast as Diana Prince/ Wonder Woman and Ray Fisher will portray Cyborg. The movie recently received the subtitle Dawn of Justice. Clearly Warner Brothers is trying to copy the massively successful Marvel model for the Avengers for the DC brand Justice League.
The ending of Days of Future Past gave fans a glimpse of the next villain the X-Men would have to face. Apocalypse will come to the silver screen and be a massive threat to the X-Men. Rumors have the newer First Class franchise merging with characters form the original X-Men trilogy. The result should be similar to the massive appeal of Days of Future past, which made 111 million Memorial Day weekend. The X-Men franchise seems stronger than ever and with the promise of another action packed thriller, Marvel’s mutants just might give the Avengers a run for their money.
May 2016 will likely be one for the ages when it comes to superhero movies. Looking ahead builds excitement and also makes the wait even harder. However, a series of superhero movies in between now and then will make the wait much easier to bear.
